Role Overview
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join the metabolic research team based in MIDRU at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. The post holder will work across a range of cardiovascular and metabolic medicine research projects involving unlicensed Clinical Trial Investigational Medicinal Products (CTIMPs).
The post holder must be a registered nurse capable of autonomous clinical practice, with substantial post registration experience in relevant clinical areas and evidence of maintaining up to date professional knowledge. Strong attention to detail is essential.
Responsibilities
* Day to day coordination of cardiovascular and metabolic research studies, supporting trial set up, and recruiting participants.
* Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to deliver high quality research.
* Provide professional leadership, mentorship and education to members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Undertake and supervise research and teaching activities to set, monitor and continuously improve standards of care and patient experience.
* Ensure safe and effective clinical practice and maintain standards of professional practice and care.
* Work collaboratively with research nurses and senior research nurses across the Trust to seek and provide support and deliver compassionate, high quality care.
* Coordinate shifts and manage overall workload, working flexibly including variation in working hours in accordance with service needs.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered level 1 Adult Nurse on the NMC register
* Relevant degree or equivalent in nursing
* Health care management / leadership qualification.
Experience
* Professional portfolio demonstrating continuing professional development and professional registration.
* Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / Acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff.
* Evidence of professional clinical knowledge in the area supplemented by specialist clinical and/or managerial training and CPD.
* Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality /acute care setting, including the supervision / education of junior staff.
* Experience of mentoring undergraduate students.
* Ability to lead / coordinate a shift / area of department.
* Experience in learning from incidents / complaints and supporting changes in practice.
* Evidence of research knowledge.
* Experience of clinical trials / studies / research coordination.

* Demonstrates specialist expertise underpinned by theory acquired through CPD.
* Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners.
* Competence in expanded clinical practice associated with the role.
