Job Description: Glasgow City Council is pleased to present this exciting opportunity to join our innovative and forward-thinking Sustainability service and become part of our efforts in tackling the climate emergency in Glasgow and contributing to the City's position as a global leader in the fight against climate change.
Reporting in through Glasgow City Council’s Sustainability Programme Management Office within the Sustainability service of Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability, the successful applicant will support delivery of actions supporting Glasgow's Climate Plan, focusing on "Greening the City" and providing project management support to the new Carbon Sequestration and Tree Management programme.
This 2-year Fixed Term post will provide a vital function in the identification, progression, and delivery of carbon capture and climate resilience projects in support of Glasgow’s Climate Plan through tree management. This is an essential element for the delivery of the council’s commitment to net zero carbon by 2030 and a climate-resilient city.
The postholder will:
* Provide project coordination and control through engaging with stakeholders across the Council, ALEOs, and external partners; collating, monitoring, and developing reports, maintaining risk and issues logs related to the Carbon Sequestration and Tree Management programme,
* Be responsible for business case development, and the oversight of delivery whilst seeking external funding to supplement funding allocated in the annual budget.
* Provide technical assistance in the assessment of suitable sites for tree planting, and support the Trees for Streets campaign,
* Develop opportunities for future greening projects, including but not limited to a green wall pilot in the City.
The post will additionally support Glasgow City Council’s Sustainability section in overseeing the successful delivery of the actions within Glasgow’s Climate Plan and achievement of the council’s target of making the city Net-Zero Carbon by 2030 across the council family and wider city stakeholders.
A relevant degree and/or postgraduate qualification within business, project management, communications, sustainability, natural environment, or engineering-related fields together with experience in a programme or project management role is essential, together with a working knowledge of tree management, site surveying, factors affecting the establishment of new trees such as microclimate, urban drainage, and presence of underground features.
