Role Overview

As the Deputy Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the care home, maintaining exceptional standards of care and efficient operations. Alongside supporting and leading the care team, you will also play a key role in administrative and financial responsibilities such as payroll, invoicing, and budget management. You will provide leadership in the absence of the Registered Manager, ensuring the home remains compliant, financially well-managed, and resident-focused.

Key Responsibilities

* Support to the Registered Manager: Assist the Registered Manager as they transition into a more directorial role, ensuring smooth operations and continuity of care.
* Operational Management: Oversee daily care home operations, including managing shifts, ensuring staff coverage, and addressing any issues that may arise.
* Staff Leadership: Lead, supervise, and motivate the care team, providing guidance, training, and development to ensure high-quality care is consistently delivered.
* Compliance & Best Practice: Ensure the care home meets Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards and regulations, promoting best practices in all aspects of resident care and home management.
* Care Planning & Reviews: Assist with assessments, care planning, and regular reviews to ensure the individual needs of residents are met with dignity, independence, and a person-centred approach.
* Staff Management: Manage recruitment, rotas, supervisions, and ongoing staff development to maintain an effective and motivated workforce.
* Shift Coverage: Be flexible and available to cover shifts at short notice when required.
* Administration & Finance:

Process and complete staff payroll in a timely and accurate manner.

Generate, issue, and track invoices to ensure prompt payments.

Monitor, manage, and report on the care home's budget to support financial sustainability.

Maintain accurate records, documentation, and systems in line with regulatory and company requirements.

* Communication: Maintain strong communication with residents, families, healthcare professionals, and external agencies.
* Leadership in Absence: Take full responsibility for the home's operations in the absence of the Registered Manager.

Requirements

* Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent) required; working towards a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership in Health and Social Care preferred.
* Experience: Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a care home or similar residential care setting. Experience in payroll, invoicing, and budget management is essential.
* Leadership Skills: Ability to manage, motivate, and support a team of care staff while overseeing administrative and financial duties.
* Financial & Organisational Skills: Strong ability to handle payroll, invoicing, and budget control alongside operational and administrative tasks.
* Regulatory Knowledge: Good understanding of CQC standards, regulations, and residential care requirements.
* Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills to build effective relationships with staff, residents, families, and professionals.
* Flexibility & Problem-Solving: Willingness to adapt to the needs of the service, cover shifts, and make confident decisions when required.
* DBS Check: A valid DBS check (or willingness to undergo one) is required.
