Power the Grid.\n\nNRL are recruiting for a short-term contract opportunity (initially 2 months, inside IR35) for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to support high-impact National Grid infrastructure projects across the UK.\nFrom HV substations to protection & control systems, this is your chance to lead the design of the UK’s most critical energy assets—fast-paced, focused, and with real-world impact.\n\nThis is your opportunity to:\n🔌 Deliver high-voltage electrical designs – across substations (primary), protection & control (secondary), overhead lines, and cable systems\n📐 Lead technical delivery – working with key project personnel to shape robust, compliant, and constructible designs\n🌍 Work hybrid – with regular site visits to Glasgow, Bristol & SW, London & Uxbridge\n🏗️ Collaborate with Tier 1 & 2 contractors – bringing deep understanding of design & build environments\n⚡ Make an impact – on projects that power millions across the UK\n\nYour Role:\nYou’ll be responsible for delivering electrical designs on National Grid projects (400kV), ensuring technical excellence and compliance across all stages of the lifecycle.\nYou’ll work closely with clients, contractors, and internal teams to drive forward engineering solutions in a fast-paced, regulated environment.\n\nYou’ll need to bring:\n\nMEng, BEng or equivalent in Electrical Engineering (accredited)\n10+ years’ experience in electrical design, with 2–3 years minimum on National Grid 400kV / HV projects\nStrong knowledge of CDAE / LCDAE (optional but valuable)\nTP141 registration (desirable)\nExperience working directly for contractors on National Grid schemes\nDeep understanding of tiered contractor environments and construction interfaces\nProven track record in HV system design across substations, cables, OHL, and protection & controlBonus Points For:\n✅ Experience in Energy/Infrastructure projects\n✅ Client-facing confidence and site-based delivery\n✅ Flexibility to travel and work hybrid across UK sites\n\nJoin a fast-moving programme with a leading engineering consultancy.\nApply now and make your mark on the grid.\n\nThe NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life.
