About the role

We have an exciting permanent opportunity for an IT Applications Designer to join our IT Division here at NFU Mutual. Your work will be pivotal in bridging the gap between conceptual idea and practical usable software in a fast-paced large IT ecosystem.


You will be collaborating closely with internal teams, SMEs and trusted external partners focussing on the conceptualisation, evaluation, architecture, functionality, end user interface, impact analysis, data mapping, and integration to bring together the Solution Vision for implementation aligned with NFU Mutual’s design principles, architectural design standards, and brand guidelines.


You will be responsible for the evaluation and full understanding of the requirements provided by stakeholders and crafting the underlying structure, engaging in technical aspects of Software / Solution Design encompassing the design, development, and maintenance phases working closely with BAs, IT Architects, Project Managers, Test Team, 3rd Parties, and Service Design amongst others.


You will also be responsible for generating, maintaining and owning design patterns.


Working under the guidance of the Systems and Solutions Designers, you will have access to excellent pathways of learning, role progression and the full support of the Design Team to aid your journey.

We are a key component of the SDLC, making evidence-based decisions to deliver robust and effective software to solve real world problems and enhance user satisfaction.


Technically you will have:



4. A solid understanding of technical fundamentals and design software stacks

5. Experience of owning and outputting low level application / solution designs

6. Experience with data migration, flows and mappings

7. An understanding of SaaS products and integration methods

8. Experience of integration methods such as APIs and ETL

9. Desirable to have experience of financial services, insurance, investments and/or pensions environments, such as Guidewire

10. Information Technology Degree, OR relevant vocational industry experience.

11. Understanding of IT team functions within the SDLC

12. Understanding of Agile SCRUM

13. Experience of using of Visio, MS ADO, Azure and AWS Platforms is desirable

14. Experience of managing and influencing technical and non-technical stakeholders

15. Experience of forming business requirements into technical designs

16. Excellent communication and experience in building relationships with key stakeholders at all levels, adapting where necessary.

17. Dynamic and independent thinker, thriving in a fast paced and dynamic working environment, using judgement and initiative to drive activity forwards.

18. Able to build strong relationships with key SMEs

19. Good team work ethic and ability to get things done
