🔧 Embedded Software Engineer (Contract / Flexible) – Outside IR35
We are a small but established engineering firm looking to engage an experienced Embedded Software Engineer on a flexible, non-committed, Outside IR35 basis.
Our existing embedded software contact is no longer available, and we are now seeking a trusted, go-to embedded engineer to support our products and future developments on an ongoing basis.
This role is ideal for an experienced contractor or freelancer who values autonomy, flexibility, and long-term collaboration without fixed hours or guaranteed workload.
🧠The Role
* Act as the primary embedded software contact for the business
* Take ownership of embedded firmware development as projects arise
* Work closely with hardware and systems engineers
* Support development from concept through to production and maintenance
* Provide continuity and technical guidance across embedded projects
🛠️ Technical Requirements
Essential:
* Strong experience in embedded C / C++
* Hands-on embedded firmware development on microcontrollers
* Low-level driver development and hardware interaction
* Debugging using JTAG/SWD and similar tools
* Ability to work independently and take responsibility for delivery
Desirable:
* Experience with DALI (Digital Addressable Lighting Interface) development
* Familiarity with common embedded protocols (UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, etc.)
* Experience supporting products through manufacturing and field deployment
* Industrial or commercial embedded systems background
