University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust
Therapeutic radiographer
€27,000 a year
Posted: 3 November
Offer description

The role of a therapeutic radiographer involves accurately localising, planning and delivering ionising radiation using state of the art technology. Therapeutic radiographers work in a multi-disciplinary team where they play a vital role in treating people with cancer. The Radiotherapy department at Royal Derby Hospital is equipped with four Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators, two of which use AlignRT for surface guided setups, HDR brachytherapy and a superficial unit. Pre-treatment equipment includes Philips Big Bore CT and Eclipse Treatment Planning system.

You will participate in a three-year BSc Radiotherapy Apprenticeship programme that combines face-to-face, work-based and online learning with some teaching at Sheffield Hallam University. The rest of the learning is based in the Radiotherapy department at the Royal Derby Hospital with extensive online interaction, requiring a combination of directed and independent studies alongside hands‑on patient‑facing clinical experience. During the training period, you will have protected time to study relevant scientific and theoretical knowledge and skills; and through clinical patient‑facing practice, you will develop the skills and expertise required to work in all areas of the Radiotherapy department.

You will be required to work a variety of shifts between the hours of 07:00 and 20:00 in order to achieve this and you may also be provided with the opportunity to attend other clinical areas as part of your off the job training to further complement your knowledge of the patient pathway.

We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals interested in providing a high standard of care to patients undergoing radiotherapy. The ability to work and communicate well with people is essential. All course tuition fees and expenses associated with completion of the degree apprenticeship will be met by the Radiotherapy Department. During the 3‑year training program, you will be paid NHS Band 5 Annex 21 pay scale.

On successful completion of the training, you will gain a BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy and will have the ability to apply for a post as a registered therapeutic radiographer (NHS AfC Band 5 pay scale).
