Transport Planner
Transport Planner – Livestock Industry – North Yorkshire + Up to £37, + Ongoing professional development and training
The Role:
An established and growing business within the UK livestock sector is seeking a Transport Planner to join its operations team. This is a fast-paced and varied position at the centre of a busy transport function, coordinating the movement of vehicles and drivers across the North of England.
You’ll be responsible for creating and supervising daily and weekly schedules, ensuring that transport plans are cost-effective, practical, and fully compliant with legal and customer requirements. This role involves working closely with drivers, farmers, customers, and field staff, requiring clear communication, adaptability, and a calm approach under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planning and scheduling vehicles and drivers, producing accurate load plans and paperwork.
- Communicating schedules effectively to drivers and stakeholders, adapting to changes in real time.
- Supervising drivers using vehicle tracking systems, resolving issues promptly.
- Coordinating with external hauliers and ensuring correct documentation is provided.
- Managing driver compliance, hours, rotas, and holiday cover.
- Liaising with workshops to book vehicle inspections, MOTs, and maintenance.
- Supporting the Transport Manager with compliance and health & safety documentation.
- Conducting and updating driver route risk assessments.
The Person:
- Good working knowledge of transport compliance (driver hours, vehicle maintenance, documentation).
- Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively at all levels.
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think on your feet.
- Comfortable working with both manual planning (pen and paper) and digital tools.
- IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office and vehicle tracking systems.
