Overview
Are you caring, patient, and driven to make a real difference to young people’s lives? We’re looking for someone to join our team as a Learning Support Teaching Assistant, based in Radstock (Somer Valley Campus), to support FE-age students with autism and learning disabilities in our specialist provision (the Wellow/SEND Centre), and across wider college settings including construction, mechanics and animal care.
Responsibilities
* Work closely with learners in our Wellow Centre where there is specialist SEND provision, helping them with everyday learning, communication, personal development and life skills.
* Support students in practical/vocational courses: construction, mechanics, animal care — helping make the hands-on learning safe, accessible and engaging.
* Be part of a team that values inclusion, respect, listening and individual progress.
* Starting ASAP, initially through a 16-week settling-in period, and moving to permanent employment once settled.
* Full-time or four days per week; shifts are either 8:30am-3:30pm or 8:30am-4:30pm.
Pay
£13.70 per hour.
What makes this a special place to work
The specialist learning pathways here are tailored for those with moderate to complex needs, including structured day-to-day support, life skills, communication support and work towards their EHCP goals. The Wellow SEND Centre is well equipped with adapted facilities (sensory spaces, wet room, changing facilities etc.) in a setting committed to making every student feel safe, respected and able to grow. In the most recent Ofsted inspection, the high-needs provision (including for students with autism and learning disabilities) was judged Good, with positive comments about the behaviour and attitudes of learners. The campus is in a beautiful rural setting, accessible from Radstock and surrounding areas, offering a welcoming, inclusive culture.
Who we hope you are
* You don’t need lots of formal experience.
* What matters most is your personality, values, and what brings you into this role: Someone compassionate, reliable and flexible, with a genuine desire to support vulnerable young people.
* A good communicator who can adapt to different learners and learning styles.
* Motivated by helping others, by seeing progress, and by working as part of a caring team.
* Perhaps a graduate, youth worker, coach, support worker, sports coach or previous teaching assistant, looking for meaningful work.
* If you live locally around Radstock, Midsomer Norton, Bath, or surrounding villages, this could be a great chance to do work that matters, in a job you can really grow with.
