Job Title: Design Engineer Salary: £41,500 rising to £51,900 depending on skills Contract : Full time & permanent Location: Desford, Leicestershire – domestical relocation will be considered The Opportunity: We’re looking for a Design Engineer to join the global Building Construction Products (BCP) Drivetrain Engineering team, based at our Desford facility. You’ll act as a drivetrain specialist, supporting the design, improvement, and quality of transmission systems used across construction equipment, working closely with global engineering, manufacturing, and supplier teams. The role is strongly focused on current product improvement (CPI) and resolving real‑world product issues, delivering robust, production‑ready solutions for customers. What you will do: As a Design Engineer, you are accountable for, but not limited to: Lead current product improvement (CPI) and quality‑related activities to resolve drivetrain and transmission issues across global customers and applications Support quality, reliability, and continuous improvement for transmissions manufactured at the Hosur, India facility, working as part of a global engineering network Design, modify, and release drivetrain and transmission components to eliminate failure modes and improve manufacturability and assembly Develop and document functional requirements, translating these into detailed designs, technical documentation, and buy‑build or cost analysis Plan and support prototype builds, testing, and technical analysis, including investigation of new materials, technologies, and competitive products Collaborate with manufacturing, suppliers, and cross‑functional teams to analyse field issues and implement effective interim and permanent corrective actions NB. What You Can Demonstrate: Level: Extensive Experience Analytical Thinking: Ability to diagnose complex drivetrain issues, identify root causes and balance quality, cost and risk to deliver effective CPI and quality improvements. Level: Working Knowledge Product Design & Development: Applies practical design skills to modify and validate drivetrain components, ensuring solutions are robust, manufacturable and production‑ready. Technical Excellence: Uses sound engineering principles and standards to resolve technical issues and support prototype builds, testing and production support. Effective Communication: Clearly communicates technical issues and recommendations to cross‑functional, global teams to enable timely resolution and alignment. What You May Have: Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering discipline (e.g. Mechanical Engineering), or equivalent engineering capability demonstrated through practical application of drivetrain or complex mechanical system design, root cause analysis, quality resolution, and delivery of production‑ready engineering solutions. Working knowledge of construction equipment drivetrains or similar complex mechanical systems, with the ability to apply this knowledge to design decisions, current product improvement, and quality actions that reflect real operating conditions and customer use. Applied understanding of manufacturing and production environments, using sound engineering judgement to balance durability, serviceability, cost, quality, and risk, and to ensure designs are practical, manufacturable, and production‑ready.
