Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Lung Cancer Screening Service for an enthusiastic and innovative nurse to deliver care and services for people eligible for Lung Cancer Screening.

The Lung Cancer Screening Programme is a is a national scheme that identifies people aged 55-74 at increased risk of lung cancer, to improve detection and subsequently treatment outcomes for patients.

The post holder will work with the existing team members to support the current services. You will be expected to work within the team but also be able to work independently. You will be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical skills and knowledge and plan and organise a clinical case load on a daily basis. You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to foster positive relationships at all levels.

Please note the post may require assessment centre or psychometric testing.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to provide and participate in the development of clinical services, participate in research and audit and maintain accurate records and data management.

The postholder will be required to work at all sites within Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust.

The Lung Cancer Screening Nurse Specialist will be expected to manage their own caseload of routine and complex patients, developing, planning and organising patient centred care. This includes facilitating and co-ordinating care between hospital, primary care and community care services for Lung Cancer Screening patients, working towards improved access early in the pathway for faster diagnosis and more optimised treatment pathways through to improved access to surveillance.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Clinical Caseload management
* Advisory resource for patients, carers and other professionals
* Facilitate and co-ordinate care between hospital and community for lung cancer patients
* Contribute to the development and implementation of audit, protocols and patient pathways
* To work in collaboration with the lead clinician and other members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a high quality service to patients with a diagnosis of lung cancer.
* To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership in order to shape the creation of acollective leadership culture within the trust. This means demonstrating a consistent leadershipstyle which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote
ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.

Qualifications

* 1 st Level Registered Nurse
* Registered Mentor
* ENB 998 or equivalent teaching qualification
* RGN with current NMC
* Advanced communication skills course
* ENB 237/931


Experience and knowledge

* Significant post registration experience & previous experience dealing with patients with cancer.
* Previous post registration experience in respiratory/acute area with involvement in palliative care
* Evidence of Post Graduate education
* Experience of dealing with lung cancer patients
* Evidence of ongoing professional development in the area of oncology/respiratory diseases
* Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
* Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods


Other requirements

* It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
