Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is a provider of specialist health care and has a presence in community outreach sites and, in collaboration with other providers, our clinicians help deliver care closer to patients’ homes by holding local clinics at locations from Cumbria to Shropshire, in Wales and the Isle of Man. The Trust also provides inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs at our Sunflower House building newly relocated, and opened on the hospital site.

Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a Band 4 Associate Neurodevelopmental Practitioner to join the Neurodevelopmental Team, within Developmental Paediatrics at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.

The practitioner will be based in the newly launched Neurodevelopmental pathway. This is a 30 hours per week permanent position. The Neurodevelopmental service consists of clinical psychologists, assistant clinical psychologists, paediatricians, neuro-developmental practitioners, speech and language therapists, healthcare assistants, a physician associate and administrators.

At Alder Hey we are a commissioned ASD and ADHD Diagnostic Assessment service for Children & Young People aged from 2 years to 18 years from Sefton, Liverpool and Knowsley. We are looking for a dedicated practitioner with good clinical skills and experience relevant to working with children and young people. The successful candidate should possess strong interpersonal skills and personal qualities which will support them to work with children, young people and families in sensitive situations from a diverse range of backgrounds; and to communicate effectively with a range of professionals.


Main duties of the job

The post holder will work collaboratively within the Neurodevelopmental Team and across Alder Hey services by proving assessment and therapeutic support for children, young people and families receiving a service from the Neurodevelopmental team, as agreed with the Lead Neurodevelopmental Practitioner.

The post holder will contribute and support the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people with ADHD and ASD.

The post holder will assess families to address the needs of the child and young person with ADHD and ASD.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Work collaboratively within the team and with other agencies.
* Be responsible for a manageable caseload.
* Be responsible for own clinical practice.
* Work within the skills and competencies expected of the role.
* Provide clinical information to support families.
* Provide clinical support and knowledge to support staff.
* Plan and provide personalised strategies and behaviour management.
* Plan and provide parent training support and intervention
* Identify the need for and initiate referrals to internal/external partners.
* Develop patient centred outcomes with child, young person, families, carers and colleagues.
* Contribute to health needs assessment as part of Special Educational Needs and Disability.
* Recognise incidents and risks and report on them as appropriate.
* Communicate effectively with children and young people and their families and carers recognising the need for alternative methods of communication to overcome different levels of understanding, cultural background and preferred ways of communicating.
* Participate in individual clinical supervision.
* Participate in mentorship and clinical supervision with the team.
* Produce accurate, contemporaneous and complete records of care, consistent with policies and procedures.
* Participate in audit as required by the organisation.
* Undertake the relevant training to develop knowledge and skills in line with Professional Development Review.
* Undertake all relevant mandatory training.
* Develop and maintain own knowledge and skills through the use of competency frameworks and continuous professional development and personal development process.


Person specification


Education and Training

* Relevant work based experience in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
* NNEB/NVQ or equivalent experience in Paediatric care.


Experience

* Assessing, planning and implementing individualised programmes of care.
* Actively involved in professional development.
* Relevant experience of working with children.
* Relevant experience of working as a team member
* Previous work in the Health Care sector.
* Understanding local and national influences on health care delivery.
* Training in specific parent training programmes and experience of delivery


Knowledge

* Governance and Risk Management
* An excellent knowledge of ADHD and ASD.
* Safeguarding adults


Skills

* Ability to use information technology to facilitate record keeping, access emails etc and develop therapy resources.
* Ability to deal with change, prioritise and take initiative.
* Ability to organise workload and manage time effectively.
* Ability to identify when to seek support.
* Ability to manage conflict in difficult situations.


Personal Attributes

* Excellent Communication, organisational and Interpersonal skills.
* Ability to travel between a range of locations.
* Actively involved in professional development.
