A fantastic opportunity for a Trade Compliance Officer has arisen to join a leading defence & technology organisation. This is a pivotal role supporting a high‑integrity engineering and manufacturing environment, ensuring full adherence to UK, EU, US and international export/import regulations across complex programmes. You'll act as the subject matter expert for trade controls, advising Engineering, Projects, Operations, Finance and senior leadership on all matters relating to Export Controls, UK Licensing, Customs, ITAR/EAR and associated compliance frameworks. Role - Trade Compliance Officer Location - Enfield (hybrid working) Type - Permanent position Salary - £40,000-£50,000 Key responsibilities of the Trade Compliance Officer / Export Control Officer / Trade Compliance Specialist will include, but not be limited to: Supporting Project Teams and Engineering to establish Commodity List Classification (CLC), Export Control Ratings, and Customs Classifications in line with UK regulations. Ensuring that all import/export activities fully comply with UK, EU and International trade laws, US EAR/ITAR, and internal policy requirements. Driving continuous improvement of internal trade compliance processes to embed robust governance. Supporting data management, technology transfer, and export control considerations throughout equipment and technology lifecycles. Delivering training sessions across the business on Export Controls and Trade Compliance topics. Preparing and submitting UK Export Licence applications and related authorisations (e.g., F680s, SIELs, OIELs, OGELs) via SPIRE/LITE. Conducting internal Trade Compliance assessments/audits and preparing reports, including draft Voluntary Disclosures for review. Working closely with regulatory bodies including ECJU, BIS, HMRC, MoD, HM Treasury and other competent authorities. ECCN identification of goods for export and re‑export, including ITAR/EAR classification and documentation. Managing End User Undertakings, Denied Party Screening, and adjudication of screening hits. Advising on complex or sensitive licence applications and supporting corrective action plans when compliance issues arise. Collaborating with Operations and Finance to ensure compliant customs practices, tariff classifications (IFS/HS codes), and accurate reporting. Using the company ERP system to process and oversee export shipments in line with company procedures. Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of defence equipment, component selection and the trade control implications for product design. Ensuring all import/export procedures remain compliant and updated according to regulatory changes. Key skills & experience required for the Trade Compliance Officer / Export Control Specialist / International Trade Compliance Officer and not limited to: Eligibility to gain UK Security (SC) Clearance. Experience in trade compliance/export control within defence, aerospace or a related regulated industry. Strong knowledge of UK Export Licensing, UK/EU customs regulations, and familiarity with EU Member State rules. Working knowledge of US ITAR & EAR (DDTC registrations, CJ requests, licence applications, TAAs). Understanding of OFAC sanctions and Specially Designated Persons lists. Experience with import/export customs procedures and regulatory frameworks including TAAs, GCs, DSP‑5, US Commerce Licence and UK F680. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to advise stakeholders at all levels. Strong influencing skills and the ability to guide decision‑making through expert trade knowledge. Presentation skills for delivering internal compliance training sessions.
