Technical Sales Engineer
This position is field / home based covering the South West area.
Our client is a market leading manufacturer of Carbide Cutting Tools which the supply to aerospace, automotive, motorsport, and advanced materials sectors.
Technical Sales Engineer
Role Purpose
You will act as a key interface between customers and our companies engineering and production teams. Responsible for identifying customer needs, proposing bespoke tooling solutions, and ensuring successful implementation and ongoing support. This role combines technical expertise with commercial acumen to drive growth and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Sales & Customer Engagement
* Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers across the designated sales area.
* Conduct site visits, technical consultations, and presentations to understand customer requirements and propose solutions.
* Prepare and deliver detailed quotations, proposals for tooling solutions.
* Create and maintain a strong sales pipeline.
* Negotiate sales in alignment with company goals.
* Technical Expertise
* Analyse customer machining processes and recommend optimal tooling strategies.
* Collaborate with design and production teams to develop bespoke tooling solutions.
* Provide post-sales technical support, including troubleshooting and performance optimisation.
* Project Management
* Manage customer projects from initial enquiry through to delivery and aftercare.
* Coordinate internal resources to ensure timely delivery and quality assurance.
* Identify new business opportunities in emerging markets and sectors.
* Contribute to marketing and product development strategies based on customer insights.
Required Skills & Experience
* Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in technical sales or applications engineering within the tooling or precision manufacturing sector.
* Strong understanding of cutting tool technologies.
* Experience in aerospace, automotive, or motorsport manufacturing environments.
* Familiarity with CNC machining, CAD/CAM software, and process optimisation.
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and strong understanding of machining strategies.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
* Willingness to travel regularly across the UK and occasionally abroad.
