Essential and Desirable Criteria
Essential criteria
Experience
* Experience of working directly with young people and/or adults
* Experience of working within safeguarding or managing safeguarding concerns
* Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, managing own workload
* Experience of working with external agencies and stakeholders
Qualifications
* GCSE English and Maths at Grade C / 4 or above (or equivalent)
* Willingness to complete appropriate Safeguarding Officer training within the first six weeks of employment
Skills and abilities
* Ability to problem solve and make quick, well‑informed decisions in challenging situations
* Ability to prioritise tasks and take initiative in a fast‑paced, changing environment
* Excellent ICT skills
* Excellent written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with professionals, parents and young people
* Excellent organisational and record‑keeping skills
* Reliable, trustworthy and able to maintain strict confidentiality
* Enthusiastic and proactive, with a commitment to developing services and positive working relationships
* Flexible approach to working hours, including evenings and weekends, and able to work across College sites when required

* Experience of working in an educational setting
* Educated to degree level
* Counselling, Mentoring or Health & Social Care qualification
* Understanding of Keeping Children Safe in Education legislation, including types of abuse, neglect and associated risk factors
