Applications are invited from candidates with experience of Forensic Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry for a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist post in Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT), Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow (EHH) hub West London Forensic Service. Applicants must be registered with a licence to practice with the GMC. Inclusion on the Specialist Register or within six months of interview is a requirement. All applicants should have Section 12 Approval and Approved Clinician status or be able to apply. Applicants need to inform us in advance if they are under any formal investigation processes by any organisations including General Medical Council (GMC).

Main duties of the job

This is a replacement post. In 2021, the Trust was successful with our bid to implement our Specialist Community Forensic Team (SCFT) model across the whole of North West and Central London. The service covers 8 North West London boroughs in three hubs (Brent, Harrow & Hillingdon (BHH), Ealing, Hammersmith & Hounslow (EHH) and Kensington, Chelsea & Westminster KCW). Working within this established and expanding team, there are many opportunities to be part of service development.

This exciting role is working within a dynamic and progressive team within SCFT. You will be working with a small but complex caseload of approximately 30 outpatients supported by a well-resourced multi-disciplinary team including social care and excellent administrative support. You will provide in-reach to secure wards and follow up to 30 in-patients prior to discharge but you will not be Responsible Clinician (RC) for these patients. You will offer clinical leadership to the team and act as Responsible Clinician / Clinical Supervisor for the service users in your caseload, who will also have an assigned social supervisor and CPN.

In addition, you will offer community forensic expertise, advise and support to the secure ward teams and service users preparing for discharge

Eligibility

Essential criteria

1. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
2. GMC Specialist Register or within six months
3. Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
4. Good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
5. Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment

Qualifications

Essential criteria

6. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable criteria

7. MRCPsych
8. Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
9. CCT in Forensic Psychiatry
10. Experience in forensic Community mental health care and / or rehabilitation of forensic patients
11. Use of relevant tools, eg HCR20, HONOS

Clinical knowledge

Essential criteria

12. Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and psychiatric risk assessment
13. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to write comprehensive clear reports for multiagency professional networks
14. Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
15. Evidence based knowledge of forensic psychiatry, relevant legislation and multiagency clinical risk management

Desirable criteria

16. Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist Forensic experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service

Academic skills and lifelong learning

17. Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
18. Ability to work in and lead team
19. Excellent written and oral communication skills
20. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
