What does the role involve?

Working within a team, you’ll use your technical expertise to provide a multi‑disciplinary consultancy service for groundwater resources projects, including aquifer development, management and protection for public and private water supply, as well as EIA and construction support for major infrastructure schemes and local developments. As a Principal Hydrogeologist you’ll manage the delivery of groundwater projects or act as a specialist discipline lead within a multidisciplinary team to achieve time, cost and quality targets. You’ll maintain client contact for project delivery and ensure that objectives are met. You’ll provide technical guidance, support and training to colleagues and assist in mentoring and development where practicable.

Qualifications & experience

* A BSc and preferably an MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or a closely related discipline.
* Chartered membership with a relevant professional body (e.g., Geological Society or CIWEM).
* Experience in water resources hydrogeology, WINEP, engineering hydrogeology (including dewatering), environmental impact assessment, and borehole construction and rehabilitation. A track record of working with or for UK water companies is preferred.
* Recent experience with Modflow (Groundwater Vistas) on real-world projects is beneficial.
* Experience managing projects and acting as a technical discipline lead on multi-disciplinary projects.
* Knowledge of commonly used standard contracts for site investigations is advantageous.
* Excellent communication skills in English; ability to produce well-structured reports and review others’ reports.
* Maintain links within the groundwater community to enhance knowledge and collaboration or business development.
* Support professional institutions through active participation on committees and at conferences.
* Competence in hydrogeological and monitoring software (e.g., AquiferWin 32, Diver Office, ArcGIS) and standard field equipment.

What’s in it for you?

This is an exciting time to join Sweco. You will learn from experienced colleagues and be encouraged to support the profession through conferences and professional institutions, while developing your industry network.
