An exciting opportunity has arisen within Blood Sciences at the King Georges Hospital Goodmayes (KGH) for a Specialist Biomedical Scientist (BMS) with experience in Haematology to join our dedicated night shift team.

Main duties
* Deliver an efficient and effective Haematology and Blood Transfusion service during the night shift.
* Work autonomously while still being part of a highly skilled and approachable team.
* Take on responsibilities that will develop your leadership and organisational skills, with opportunities to supervise sections of the laboratory.
* Undertake manual, semi-automated and fully automated laboratory investigations in accordance with standard operating procedures, including preparation of reagents where required.
* Undertake preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment; investigate and correct equipment failure or seek advice from senior staff or service engineer; maintain a record in accordance with protocol.
* Check the accuracy and precision of manual and automated laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures and take appropriate action if a problem is identified.
* Report any instance or event which may cause a service delivery failure.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills in haematology, blood transfusion and immunology to support best practice and maintain a portfolio to demonstrate this.
* Keep the workplace and work benches clean and tidy.
* Maintain good work relations with all members of staff, and plan and organise own work within the demands of the team.
* Treat everyone associated with the Trust with courtesy and respect.
Job Responsibilities
About the role: The Haematology Department operates across two laboratories (KGH and QH), managed as a single service. While staff may be asked to work across both sites, this role will be primarily based at KGH on the night rota.

* HCPC registration and specialist knowledge/experience in Haematology.
* The ability to work confidently and independently during night shifts.
* Strong interpersonal skills and a proactive approach to maintaining high-quality standards of care.

Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
* State registration with the HCPC.
* BSc(hons) in Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification; specialist knowledge in Haematology and hospital transfusion science.
* Membership of the IBMS CPD evidence.
Skills / Abilities
* Good organisational skills, good communication skills – both written and verbal; good technical skills.
* Willing to participate in on call rota.
Experience / Knowledge
* Minimum 3-year post registration working in haematology/Immunology/blood transfusion or equivalent experience.
* Experience in Haematology, Blood Transfusion or Immunology. Experience in out of hours working in Blood Transfusion or Haematology.
