About Us: QDSL (Quintessential Design Services Limited) is an engineering and technology consultancy based in the UK, supporting client projects in the fields of Engineering Innovations, Research & Development, and IT. We offer engineering support in Automotive, Aerospace, Energy, and IT.

You’ll be supporting the team in delivering the electrified powerpack NVH attribute for all vehicle applications, working on all aspects of electrified powerpack NVH design, development, and delivery from initial concept design through to series production. The team’s primary role is the NVH development of Electric Drive Units (EDUs). Responsible for the complete torque transfer system from the output of an internal combustion engine to the wheel hubs. The role includes supporting analysis of competitor information, benchmarking, setting targets, liaising with all areas of EDU design & development, Powertrain, and Vehicle NVH teams. Scope covers from component to vehicle level to deliver the NVH attribute using rigs, noise test cells, and vehicle testing. You’ll work very closely with the CAE NVH team who provide virtual development tools to support NVH attribute delivery.

This role is open for onsite in the UK (for UK residents only) or remote from another country on a contract basis to support projects in the UK.

Key Responsibilities

1. You’ll be familiar with practical problem-solving techniques and have used or be familiar with 8D and other tools. You’ll also have technical experience using LMS to record and analyse data, and you’ll be able to interpret and present the data.
2. You will be flexible and adaptable, capable of supporting multiple workstreams simultaneously, from detailed technical work to high-level programme overview.
3. Strong technical communication skills, both verbal and written, to report technical issues across all levels.
4. Support the delivery of the electrified powerpack NVH attribute to quality, cost, and time, employing a systems engineering approach to ensure full target compatibility with all interfacing functions up to vehicle customer level.
5. Provide clear, data-driven recommendations based on your work.
6. Support the development and delivery of electrified Powerpack NVH attributes; benchmarking, target setting, technical assumptions, issue resolution, verification testing, and project planning and execution.
7. Conduct NVH measurements, data analysis, and reporting of results and conclusions in line with project quality, cost, and timing standards.
8. Collaborate with component & test engineers, CAE engineers, and suppliers to conduct NVH work.
9. Support all aspects related to Electrified Powerpack NVH, including testing of components, systems, and vehicles.
10. Contribute to continuous improvement in NVH processes, tools, and techniques, and help develop departmental standards, requirements, and procedures.
11. Implement Agile methodologies, including daily stand-ups, sprint retrospectives, backlog refinement, and showcases. Manage workflow using MBIs and Stories, escalate issues, and resolve problems with Agile tools and methods.
12. Support problem definition, investigation, and resolution using appropriate tools and processes.
13. Ensure high-quality design analysis and development within an agile framework.
14. Assist in design, development, and prototype activities within engineering projects.
15. Support prototype design freeze activities, liaise with customer engineering teams, and support customer production/prototype sites.
16. Assist in the design and development of Propulsion Systems.
17. Work with design teams to develop and optimize solutions considering multiple attributes within deadlines.
18. Support the development of tools and techniques to enhance virtual model capabilities and robustness.
19. Ensure quality in design analysis and development within an agile environment.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Required:

1. Minimum Degree-level education with fundamental knowledge of power unit systems, especially ICE & EDU propulsion systems.
2. 5+ years experience in Powertrain NVH Testing, engine design, or related roles.
3. Knowledge of NVH principles.
4. Ability to plan, organize, and conduct measurements or experiments.
5. Experience with NVH measurement and data analysis using tools such as Bruel & Kjaer, LMS.
6. Ability to analyze data, draw conclusions, report, and present findings.
7. Proven problem-solving skills using tools like Root Cause Analysis or 8D.
8. Knowledge of quality tools, processes, and metrics for product robustness and improvements.
9. Experience with product development systems and processes.
10. Experience with gear and motor design and their NVH implications.
11. Experience with EDU or rotating machinery NVH development.
12. Knowledge of CAE tools and techniques.
13. Understanding of whole vehicle engineering and cross-functional collaboration.
14. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working in a global, cross-functional team.
15. Strong analytical, proactive, and accurate work ethic.
16. Experience supporting engineering or analytical projects and proposing design modifications for improvement.
