Electrical Estimator – Electrical Contracting

About the Role
Join a respected electrical contracting and design-build business established in Birmingham since 1986. The organisation handles projects across commercial, industrial, residential, and EV/solar infrastructure sectors—from smaller packages to multi-million-pound connections up to £7 million They have a strong health & safety culture, ISO 9001 accreditation, and national trade accreditations: NICEIC, ECA, CHAS Elite, and Constructionline Gold
Key Responsibilities
1. Pre‑Tender Costing: Perform quantity take-offs from drawings, review tender documents, and prepare accurate cost breakdowns for electrical scopes
2. Supplier Engagement: Issue RFQs, assess subcontractor and supplier quotations, and build strong market relationships
3. Tender Management: Prepare detailed cost plans, narrative summaries, and bid submission packs
4. Commercial Oversight: Input and analyse costs using estimating software (e.g., Trimble, Amtech, Bluebeam), track variances and update estimates as project scope changes
5. Client & Team Liaison: Attend pre-bid/site meetings, clarify scope, and present tender proposals
6. Value Engineering: Identify risks and opportunities, optimise costs, and ensure bids are competitive and profitable
7. Compliance & Quality: Ensure estimates align with H&S, ISO 9001, NICEIC/ECA standards and contractual obligations
What You’ll Bring
8. 3+ years’ experience directly estimating in electrical or MEP contracting
9. Strong technical understanding of electrical building systems and design–build delivery
10. Detailed knowledge of UK regulations and standards (e.g. BS 7671)
11. Proficiency in estimating tools and software (e.g., Amtech, Trimble Contract Master, Bluebeam)
12. Excellent analytical, numerical, and report-writing skills
13. Confident communicator with strong negotiation and stakeholder management
14. Ability to manage multiple tenders in parallel and meet tight deadlines
15. Desirable: SMSTS/SSSTS certification, electrical qualification, and exposure to renewable energy/EV infrastructure projects
