Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship - Millstead Primary School

About the Role

The learner will be working toward the role of Additional Needs Support Assistant. This position involves supporting the class teacher, the Headteacher and the Governing Body in creating a positive and inclusive learning environment for pupils with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning difficulties or autism. The role includes providing tailored support to help pupils overcome barriers linked to sensory, behavioural, communication, medical or physical needs. The learner will also assist other staff under the direction of the class teacher or learning support officer. A key part of the role is contributing to the safeguarding, wellbeing and personal care of children and young people across the school.

Apprenticeship Details

* Hours: Monday to Friday (8.45am to 3.30pm, and every other Monday until 5pm), term-time only, 32 hours per week
* Hourly Wage: £7.55 per hour (first 12 months), then National Minimum Wage
* Apprenticeship Level: Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship
* Location: Position availabe at 2 sites: Iliad Street, Liverpool, L5 3LU and Naylorsfield Drive, Liverpool, L27 0YD
* Expected Duration: 16 months

Key Responsibilities

* Contributed to curriculum planning and evaluation, supporting the implementation of teaching programmes
* Assisted in lesson delivery and interacted effectively with teachers and pupils
* Adapted learning activities in response to pupil needs and progress
* Supported the use of ICT in learning, helping pupils build confidence and independence in technology use
* Provided individual and group support, explaining tasks, reinforcing key concepts, and maintaining pupil engagement and motivation
* Delivered short sessions to the whole class, such as reading activities
* Encouraged communication and participation through role play and interactive tasks
* Promoted inclusion, teamwork, and positive pupil relationships
* Fostered independence, confidence, and self-esteem among pupils
* Assisted in lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation in collaboration with teaching staff
* Monitored pupil progress and provided constructive feedback to the teacher
* Contributed to assessment through observation, reporting, and accurate record keeping
* Supported classroom management through the preparation and organisation of resources, equipment, and materials
* Completed administrative tasks such as producing learning materials and managing coursework
* Liaised with parents, carers, specialist teachers, and external professionals to support pupil development
* Ensured the safety, welfare, and inclusion of pupils, providing personal and hygiene support where required

Desired Qualifications:

* 5 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades A*-C / 9-4, including English and Maths

Things to Consider

* This role requires an enhanced DBS check due to the nature of working with children
* Apprentices are paid for both their work hours and any training associated with the apprenticeship

About the School

Millstead School caters for children aged 2 – 11 years who have severe or profound learning and/or physical needs, including complex autism.
