Test Engineer - Fire Suppression Systems (Future Talent Pipeline)
Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire
Salary: £30,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
This role offers real diversity and variety across a wide range of products and tasks, working within our testing labs, and would be the perfect role for an engineer looking to apply their technical ability in a client-focused role. To be successful you’ll need the skills to build relationships with clients, understand their requirements, and then deliver this work autonomously.
Strong communication and project management skills are at the heart of this role. You’ll have constant interaction and engagement with clients at a variety of levels, from technicians to Directors. You’ll be managing multiple projects, so strong project management skills are a must. You’ll need to use your strong interpersonal skills to confidently present findings to our clients about their products. Suitable candidates could include fire detection/alarm engineers or candidates from a relative fire detection device manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
* To liaise with clients and advise on the status of work to facilitate premier customer service and on‑time delivery.
* Respond to customer queries and provide technical support.
* Develop technical skills to enhance own skills & ability to carry out testing work across a wide variety of laboratories, equipment and standards or client bespoke requirements.
* Operate in line with quality and safety procedures to ensure compliance with the organisation’s and legislative requirements and the requirements of ISO 17025.
* Carry out test work:
o Test in line with standards, procedures or client needs.
o Maintain traceable records & results.
o Produce quality test reports in a timely manner or project status reports as requested.
o Liaise with calibration department on the maintenance and use of the correct equipment to carry out testing.
o Maintain good housekeeping in the lab, office with all electronics data storage.
o Report and escalated issues in testing which impact performance or quality of results.
* Collaborate and communicate with colleagues, suppliers, locations and clients to facilitate a seamless service through the whole BSI supply chain.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
* A minimum of a BTEC/HNC/HND in a related engineering discipline or equivalent industry experience in a test environment.
* Good communication skills and the ability to write clear and concise reports.
* Positive customer‑focused approach to work and communication with colleagues.
* Ability to work as an individual or as part of a team, to tight time scales.
* Good level of computer literacy and working knowledge of MS Office or equivalent.
* Solutions oriented, support change with a can‑do approach.
* Excellent time management and attention to detail.
* Knowledge or familiarity of Lean culture and tools is advantageous.
* Knowledge of 17025 is advantageous.
* Experience in installation of fire detection system would be advantageous.
* Hands on experience in fire suppression equipment testing would be advantageous.
