<div><p>Go back University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW)</p><h3>Post-CCT Advanced HPB Endoscopy & Hepatology Fellowship</h3><p><b>The closing date is 29 June 2026</b></p><p>The University Hospitals Bristol and Weston (UHBW) Endoscopy Department provides a comprehensive range of endoscopic services to the populations of Bristol and the South West. These services include endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for advanced benign polyps and early cancers, endoscopic therapy for Barretts oesophagus and dysplasia, stricture dilatation, ablative therapies, and tertiary biliary endoscopy, including ERCP, cholangioscopy and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS).</p><p>The UHBW Hepatology Department delivers specialist care across the full spectrum of liver disease for the local population in central and south Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and surrounding areas. In addition, the service provides regional expertise in the management of complex liver conditions, including hepatocellular carcinoma, hepatitis C, complex portal hypertension and liver transplantation, in collaboration with the Royal Free Hospital, London.</p><p>Services are primarily delivered at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital, with additional provision at South Bristol Community Hospital and through outreach services. A hepatology service at Weston General Hospital has been in development since 2023.</p><p>We are a committed and collaborative team, dedicated to delivering high-quality, patient‑centred care.</p><h3>Main duties of the job</h3><p>The aim of this post is to enhance experience in advanced HPB endoscopy and hepatology, while supporting the development of independent practice in preparation for a substantive consultant role. Accordingly, the post is intended for individuals who have completed their training and have been awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Gastroenterology, with subspecialty accreditation in hepatology.</p><p>UHBW will provide the successful applicant with two dedicated endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) training lists per week, alongside additional exposure to HPB endoscopy. Attendance at the regional HPB multidisciplinary team (MDT) meeting will be incorporated into the job plan.</p><h3>Job responsibilities</h3><p>The successful candidate must be competent and independent in the management of upper GI bleeding. They will contribute to the scheduled morning bleed list and participate in out‑of‑hours endoscopy on an ad hoc basis (to be remunerated on a locum basis in accordance with agreed trust rates), aligned with gaps in the established GI bleed rota (approximately 1:10 frequency).</p><p>There will be a strong expectation for the successful candidate to contribute to the organisation and delivery of endoscopy training locally within UHBW and regionally, primarily through involvement with the Bristol Endoscopy Training Collaborative‑run Upper GI Haemostasis course, which is currently delivered three times per year.</p><p>In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to service provision in diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, including backfilling lists, and will support trainees in achieving JAG certification in diagnostic gastroscopy.</p><p>The successful applicant will also be expected to actively participate in quality improvement and service development initiatives within the HPB endoscopy and hepatology service. This will include identifying opportunities to enhance patient pathways, contributing to audit and governance activities, and supporting the implementation of service innovations. In addition, there will be an expectation to contribute to ongoing research within the department, with opportunities to be involved in clinical studies, collaborative projects, and academic outputs where appropriate.</p><h3>Person Specification</h3><h3>Qualifications & Eligability</h3><ul><li>MBBS or equivalent medical qualification</li><li>MRCP (UK) full diploma or equivalent</li><li>Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practice.</li><li>Evidence of being awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Internal Medicine (GIM) and Gastroenterology, with subspecialty accreditation in hepatology</li><li>Eligibility to work in the UK</li><li>Is up to date and fit to practise safely</li><li>Meets professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards/ Good Medical Practice)</li><li>Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD (where research thesis not part of first medical degree)</li><li>Intercalated BSc or equivalent</li></ul><h3>Clinical Skills & Experience</h3><ul><li>JAG certification in Gastroscopy</li><li>Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems</li><li>Awareness of the basics of managing patients with gastroenterology disease</li><li>Able to demonstrate proficiency in a range of medical procedures as an indication of manual dexterity and hand‑eye coordination</li><li>Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in‑patients through continuous work‑based assessments, portfolio evidence, including log book documentation if applicable</li><li>Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate</li><li>Demonstrate current ALS certification or equivalent</li><li>JAG certification in ERCP/EUS</li><li>Experience in teaching or training</li></ul><h3>Probity</h3><ul><li>Demonstrates probity (displays honesty, integrity, aware of ethical dilemmas, respects confidentiality)</li><li>Capacity to take responsibility for own actions</li></ul><h3>Commitment To Specialty</h3><ul><li>Demonstrable interest in and understanding of the specialty</li><li>Commitment to personal and professional development</li><li>Evidence of attendance at organised teaching and training programme</li><li>Evidence of self‑reflective practice</li><li>Extracurricular activities / achievements relevant to the specialty</li><li>Evidence of participation at meetings and activities relevant to the specialty</li></ul><h3>Academic skills (research, audit, teaching etc)</h3><ul><li>Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues</li><li>Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence based practice, patient safety and clinical improvement initiatives</li><li>Demonstrates knowledge of evidence‑informed practice</li><li>Demonstrates an understanding of research methodology</li><li>Evidence of relevant academic publications</li><li>Evidence of involvement in an audit project, formal research project or other activity focusing on patient safety and clinical improvement</li><li>Evidence of a portfolio of audit projects including where the audit loop has been closed and there is evidence of learning of the principles of change management</li><li>Demonstrates an understanding of clinical governance</li><li>Evidence of involvement in teaching students, postgraduates and other professionals in medicine</li><li>Evidence of participation in a teaching course</li></ul><h3>Personal Skill & Management Skills</h3><ul><li>Demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication & capacity to adapt language as appropriate to the situation</li><li>Able to build rapport, listen, persuade & negotiate</li><li>Capacity to use logical/lateral thinking to solve problems/make decisions, indicating an analytical/scientific approach</li><li>Capacity to take in others perspectives and treat others with understanding;
