Purpose of the role
Performs a variety of routine servicing, inspections and subsequent repairs to one or more types of Distribution Tractors, Ro‑Ro Tractors and other sea port equipment, Aircraft Equipment (GSE Only) and any other manufacturer’s products on customer’s premises when requested. Performs visual or operational checks to locate worn, dirty or maladjusted parts. Carries out technical inspections or uses technical manuals and diagnostic techniques to find and repair inoperable or defective machine parts, components or systems using a small variety of test equipment. Undertakes thorough inspections of accident damaged machines and produces accurate reports to enable repair. Works for most of the period without direct supervision, observing all company and site Health & Safety requirements at all times.
Responsibilities
- Represent Terberg DTS Service Department in the ‘field’ and display the highest standards of appearance, manner and technical ability.
- Work as an effective member of the Service Department.
- Undertake the tasks and assignments issued by the Service Department either by oral instruction or in the form of electronic work instructions.
- Determine own repair and maintenance techniques, select equipment, proper materials and implement correct safety measures such as eye protection and suitable clothing.
- Obtain agreement from the customer that the work has been completed as required/requested, and in all cases obtain signature and purchase order number where necessary.
- Perform all related administrative procedures to acceptable standards.
- Maintain accurate inventory procedures for vehicle parts stock.
- Ensure maintenance and repairs are carried out in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and Safe System of Work procedures.
- Understand the Company’s Health & Safety Policy and work safely and cooperate to fulfill statutory obligations.
- Attend all training courses and seminars as required.
- Keep all company equipment in a clean, safe and presentable manner (e.g. company vehicles).
- Keep company supplied equipment secure at all times.
- Use mobile phones in line with current legislation.
- Work with all departments, particularly with projects that are being explored or implemented.
- Be prepared to work additional hours when required, including out of hours call out.
- Be prepared to work away from home on customer’s vehicles, with or without workshop facilities, including unsociable hours.
- Undertake any other duties consistent with the purpose of this job or to support the needs of the business.

Critical Knowledge Required
- Knowledge of current road traffic law (speed limits, van weight restrictions, driver’s hours, etc.).
- Ensure high standards of preventative maintenance and repairs are actioned in line with manufacturers’ recommendations and Safe System of Work procedures.
- Knowledge of Terberg Tugs.
- Knowledge of latest diagnostic systems.
Qualifications and Experience required
- City and Guilds Level 3 – Vehicle Mechanical and Electronic Systems – Maintenance and Repair Qualification or equivalent qualification.
- Substantial experience in Auto Electrician fault diagnosis and resultant repairs, including use of electronic diagnostic equipment, and experience with a range of heavy goods / specialist vehicles.
- UK valid driving licence.
