We offer a range of learning and development for all employees may you be clinical or non-clinical., We are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity to come and join our team at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. We are looking to employ a dynamic, compassionate and aspirational individual for the role of Occupational Therapy Assistant in our Elderly Care service. The post holder will work as part of the Elderly Care Therapy Team, supporting functional assessment, rehabilitation and discharge planning to patients during their inpatient stay. The successful applicant will be passionate about delivering high quality patient care and outcomes. You will require excellent communication skills to build rapport with patients, their relatives / carers and the multidisciplinary team. You will have sound IT skills and demonstrate the Trust's values of Compassion, Aspiration, Resourcefulness and Excellence. Regular appraisal, supervision and support will be given to develop you as an individual in the therapy team with many opportunities to progress further. You will work alongside senior colleagues to implement new initiatives to continue to develop the service in line with best practice and clinical guidelines.


Responsibilities

* Assist the occupational therapists in the therapeutic management of patients.
* Facilitate and participate in ongoing patient treatment and assessment under supervision.
* Adjust own clinical interventions based on the fluctuating needs of the patient under supervision of OT.
* Implement, evaluate and modify OT interventions.
* Carry out functional activity assessments including personal care assessments, meal preparation and assisting on home visits when required.
* Provide a high quality, effective and efficient occupational therapy service.
* Provide a range of activities, instructing and guiding patients individually or in groups to support them in achieving identified goals and promoting independence under supervision of a registered OT.
* Undertake delegated tasks to contribute to the safe and smooth running of the service.
* Carry out outreach and community work under supervision of OT.
* Driving for access visits and home visits in lease car.


Qualifications

* Education to GCSE level including English and Maths.
* NVQ or equivalent in Health and Social Care field.
* Proven experience in a Health or social care setting, demonstrating experience of assisting with personal care activities.
* Experience of working in Therapies.
* IT skills including word and email use.


Desirable Criteria

* Previous experience of working in a care or hospital environment.
* Knowledge of hospital functions, Car driver.
