This is a rare opportunity to lead a brand-new club from the ground up, shaping its success and making a real impact on the local fitness scene. The Club Manager of THE NEW CLUB in Bedford will be at the heart of this journey, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the club’s operations. With a strong focus on driving new membership sales, retaining existing members, managing a dedicated team and contractors, and ensuring the highest health and safety standards, you will play a pivotal role in delivering an exceptional member experience and building a thriving fitness community. The ideal candidate will have Level 2 fitness qualifications, a proven track record in leading high-performing sales teams, and the ability to engage personally with gym-goers to create a welcoming, results-driven environment. KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY Sales: Manage initial prospective member enquiries and visits, converting telephone enquiries into appointments for you and your Sales Team. Develop and lead membership referral schemes and cost-effective corporate membership programs targeting local businesses and student groups. Oversee daily management of the membership system, ensuring accurate data entry of all prospects and members. Provide ‘on the floor’ sales leadership, support, and guidance across all income streams. Ensure sales staff conduct effective sales tours and consistently achieve agreed KPIs (prospects, calls, appointments, sales). Member Retention: Analyse membership statistics and trends, implementing effective retention strategies including corporate membership activities. Foster a strong club culture that engages members, encouraging belonging and increasing satisfaction, longevity, and referrals. Club Daily Operations: Coordinate club management programs for membership and direct debit management, including retention and debt collection procedures. Maintain club standards within budget, ensuring outstanding member experience through cleanliness, equipment upkeep, stocked retail zones, and updated advertising/wall displays. Manage staffing during all advertised hours including planned and unexpected absences. Ensure club website is regularly updated, especially by the 1st of each month. Management, Training and Development: Lead day-to-day management of the Sales and Membership Team, conducting and documenting weekly 121s, and attending regular meetings with the Club Owner. Train and develop staff to provide excellent customer service, introduce motivational campaigns, and manage underperformance with HR support. Coordinate Personal Trainers’ activities to support PT business growth and ongoing income. Marketing: Promote the club using pre-developed advertising materials and social media, creating sales campaigns that reach broad target markets. Complete and submit comprehensive monthly marketing planners on time, ensuring activities support sales targets and stay within budget. Conduct monthly competitor profiling and implement strategies to maximize competitive advantage. Develop campaigns targeting specific groups such as local businesses and students. Keep the club’s website exciting, informative, and up to date. Health & Safety: Ensure full adherence to Club H&S requirements as specified by Citation, completing all recommendations within requested timeframes.
