The Opportunity
We are looking for a commercially driven Head of Finance with a knack of balancing fundraising
and scaling a fast-growing business to join our leadership team at Gutology. You will be our first
full-time senior finance hire, which means you will take the function to the next level to support a
business that has the ambitions to scale to £25m annual Gross Sales in three years. You will
have all the support from the CEO, Founder and leadership team, as well as the rest of the
Gutology team. You will play a big role in helping shape the future direction and success of
Gutology.
The right person will be comfortable in a board meeting, getting stuck into the unit economics in
DTC and Retail, and rolling up their sleeves to help us grow Gutology. We will look to you to
help set a steady drum beat for the business and team, which means we have the right
information to track business performance and make the timely decisions to course correct or
double down when the opportunity arises. You will bring diversity of thought and positive
challenge to the CEO, Founder and leadership team, whilst being a genuine business partner
across the business.

Key Responsibilities
1. Financial & Commercial Strategy
• Own the annual budget, 52wk and 3-year rolling forecasts, ensuring they are fit for
purpose to help us deliver our ambitious goals.
• Provide rigorous focus on unit economics across our DTC, Retail, and international
channels, ensuring our DTC and Retail P&Ls stack up and help us deliver sustainable
business growth.
• Partner with the Commercial / Growth team on pricing, promotional strategy, and channel
strategy as we expand further into retail and new geographies
2. Fundraising
• Support our CEO and Founder on our next fundraise to prepare, pitch, and close.
• Build and maintain a financial model that tells a clear story about our unit economics,
growth plans, and resource requirements.
• Get our back office whipped into shape, then prepare and maintain all investor materials
including our data room, management accounts pack and KPI dashboards.
• Be part of the fundraising team with our CEO and Founder, by building relationships with
existing and prospective investors, VCs, funds or strategics within the consumer, health
and wellness or similar sectors.
• Explore, evaluate and be on top of all appropriate funding routes to maintain and scale our
business e.g. equity, venture debt, revenue-based finance, and grants (including Innovate
UK and R&D tax credits where applicable).
• Lead due diligence processes and coordinate external advisers (legal, tax, accounting)
through any transaction.
3. Financial Controls
• Ensure we have the right financial set-up / ways of working for Gutology as we grow,
helping make sure we have the tools and resource required to grow as we scale, so we
aren’t resource constrained.
• Oversee cash flow management and working capital as we scale to meet increased DTC,
Retail and International demand.
• Lead the relationship with our accountants, auditors, banking partners, and any other
financial service providers.
• Ensure statutory compliance: Companies House filings, tax (VAT, corporation tax, R&D
credits), payroll, and any international tax obligations as we expand.
• Manage and develop the existing finance team (currently 1 Management Accountant), with
a view to building the function as the business scales.
4. Commercial Finance
• Support the build-out of our financial and operational infrastructure for international
markets, FX management, and local compliance.
• Work closely with commercial Gutologists to model and manage the financial implications
of entering new retail channels, including trading terms, payment cycles, and stock
financing.
• Provide tools for the team to build their own plans, then support as a business partner to
build the best plans for our partners and Gutology
• Advise on the optimal legal entity and tax structure as we establish presence in new
markets.
5. Leadership & Culture
• Sit on the leadership team, help us live our values at every moment, hold us to account
and play your part in leading the company
• Be a credible, challenging, and constructive voice in the leadership team, being able to
say no when it matters and back it up with data (or a P&L..to keep the CEO happy)
• Represent the finance function externally with investors, advisers, banking partners, and
retail buyers where financial credibility is needed.
• Help build a culture of financial literacy and commercial accountability across the
business…we love a P&L, but not everyone has seen one or knows how it works or what
levers to pull in order to improve sales and / or margins
• Most importantly, help us make brave, but calculated decisions that can help us achieve
our goals sooner and / or with the least risk
Person Specification
Essential
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with significant post-qualification
experience.
• Proven experience of leading or materially contributing to an equity fundraise
• Track record in a high-growth, cash constrained scale-up environment, meaning you
understand that speed and pragmatism matter as much as precision.
• Strong financial modelling skills meaning you can build models from scratch but not be the
only one who can use them.
• Ability to translate complex financials and challenges into a simple narrative so everyone
can come on the journey and buy into what we are trying to achieve.
• You get business, so you are thinking about the business, not just the numbers.
• Experience of DTC or e-commerce business models, with fluency in the metrics that
matter (CAC, LTV, contribution margin, return rates, etc.).
• Comfortable being a first or early senior finance recruit.
• Excellent communicator — with investors, the board, and colleagues who may have
limited financial background.
Would be great to have
• Experience in branded consumer goods.
• Exposure to retail channel finance, with a good understanding of trading terms,
deductions, RRP management, and retailer P&Ls.
• Experience of international expansion
• Familiarity with venture debt or revenue-based financing
• Prior experience working with a PE-backed or VC-backed business.
• Hands-on with modern finance tools and comfortable (but not reliant on) AI tools
