About the Role
The Pharmacist Lead will oversee the clinical and operational aspects of the dispensary, guiding a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in delivering safe, effective, and personalised weight loss therapies. This role combines hands-on patient care with leadership responsibilities to ensure exceptional clinical outcomes and high standards of service in line with UK pharmacy regulations.
The role will initially be based at Hyde, soon to relocate to Stockport, Gordon Street SK4 1RS.
Key accountabilities include:
1. Clinical Leadership & Team Guidance
* Lead, mentor, and support a team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
* Promote a culture of patient safety, clinical excellence, and professional development.
* Provide guidance on complex clinical decisions and therapy adjustments.
* Assist in staff scheduling, workflow management, and delegation to ensure smooth dispensary operations.
2. Patient Care & Clinical Oversight
* Review prescriptions and weight loss treatment plans for safety, efficacy, and appropriateness.
* Counsel patients on medication use, lifestyle modifications, and potential side effects.
* Monitor patient outcomes and collaborate with GPs, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to optimise treatment plans.
* Develop and maintain clinical protocols specific to weight management therapies.
3. Regulatory Compliance & Quality Assurance
* Ensure compliance with UK pharmacy legislation and professional standards (GPhC regulations).
* Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting in line with legal and organisational requirements.
* Lead quality improvement initiatives to enhance medication safety and service delivery.
4. Dispensary Operations
* Oversee inventory management, ordering, and stock control of weight loss medications and supplies.
* Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of pharmaceuticals.
* Support operational efficiency and budget management while maintaining high-quality patient care.
5. Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
* Coordinate with GPs, nutritionists, and wellness specialists for integrated patient care.
* Contribute to educational initiatives, patient programmes, and awareness campaigns.
* Represent the dispensary in professional settings and community engagements as needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
* MPharm degree or equivalent, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
* Minimum of 3–5 years of pharmacy experience, preferably with leadership responsibilities.
* Experience in weight loss, nutrition, or wellness pharmacy is highly desirable.
Skills & Competencies:
* Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
* Excellent knowledge of weight management medications and clinical therapies.
* Effective communication and patient counselling abilities.
* Problem-solving, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills.
* In-depth knowledge of UK pharmacy regulations, quality assurance, and safety standards.
* Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced dispensary environment.
Working Conditions:
* Full-time role based in the dispensary working 45 hours per week.
* May require flexible hours including weekends or extended hours.
* Clinical and operational responsibilities in line with UK pharmacy standards.
