We have a vacancy in the Revenues and Benefits service area for a Revenues Officer.
Position Details:
* Location: Council Offices, Kirkwall
* Hours: 35 hours per week
* Type: Permanent
* Salary: £29,192 - £29,795 / £16.00 - £16.33 per hour (including Distant Islands Allowance)
Role Overview:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual with a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn. You will work in a busy environment, responding quickly to changing priorities, and handling confidential and sensitive matters. Experience dealing with the public, understanding office systems and procedures, and complying with legislative requirements are essential.
You will be responsible for administering Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, and the Kirkwall Town Centre Improvement Levy, including assessing taxpayer liability, discounts, reliefs, and exemptions, and responding to customer inquiries via various channels.
This entry-level role offers training, opportunities for career growth, and progression, including working towards a professional qualification through the Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (IRRV).
Qualifications required include SCQF 6/7 level (e.g., SVQ3, National Certificate, HNC) or a minimum of 3 years' relevant experience if the qualification is not held. The postholder will be eligible for the Local Government Pension Scheme and must be able to travel within Orkney efficiently. Level 1 Disclosure Scotland clearance is required.
