Job Description:
To meet the STEP programme milestones and objectives, we are seeking a highly experienced and visionary Head of Engineering – Prototype and Testing to join our team and drive the delivery of a pioneering fusion power plant.
The Role: As a key member of the STEP programme, you will be responsible for the strategic direction and execution of Prototype and Testing activities, establishing and owning the delivery strategy, fostering engineering excellence, and collaborating with various teams to ensure capabilities and risk management are in place. You will work closely with the Head of Engineering – Computing, Modelling and Simulation, and support the development of Virtual Twins and evaluation of novel concepts.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of fusion energy in the UK, requiring leadership in navigating complexity, adopting new technologies, and driving efficiencies within the organization.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Strategic Leadership: Define and implement the strategy for the physical technology demonstration, identify advancements, and leverage digital technologies for performance enhancement.
2. Programme Delivery Excellence: Ensure the programme has the necessary resources, lead workforce planning, and develop strategies for lifecycle management and digital integration.
3. Leadership and Collaboration: Oversee all engineering delivery, manage stakeholder relationships, act as the primary technical contact, and promote a collaborative and inclusive working environment.

Qualifications:
Essential:
* Degree in a STEM field
* Chartered Engineer
* Experience leading large engineering teams and testing programmes
* Programme or Engineering Management experience
* Strategic and innovative thinking with a collaborative approach
* Experience with design authority organizations
* Strong communication skills
* Ability to adapt and upskill quickly
* Proven leadership in technical teams
Desirable:
* Experience in emergent tech environments
* Experience delivering major programmes
* Knowledge of Dassault Systems 3D Experience platform
* Experience with virtual analogues and accreditation
* Commercial contracting and negotiation experience, especially IP protection
