This position supports Brookfield Zoo Chicago ('BZC') by providing excellent guest service as the primary contact for visitors, including professional visitors conducting business such as tours, meetings, and reservations. Responsibilities include managing access information, monitoring the South Gate entrance, and supporting other Guest & Membership Services functions as needed.
This is a seasonal, non-union hourly position (grade S007-3) with a pay rate of $17.60 per hour. For benefits information, please refer to our Benefits Table or the benefits details provided after this description.
Brookfield Zoo operates 363 days a year, requiring flexible work schedules including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Candidates should be available for a minimum of three days per week, including one weekend day. Shifts typically last 4 to 8 hours, from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM (and up to 10:00 PM for special events). The role requires transporting mail using a zoo vehicle, so a valid driver’s license is necessary. The minimum age for applicants is 18 years.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
* Greet guests with exceptional hospitality, ensuring a positive first impression and smooth entry process at the South Gate.
* Manage gate appointments, ensuring daily gate lists are updated and distributed.
* Respond to internal calls and radio traffic, relaying urgent information and making announcements as needed.
* Maintain the South Reception area with supplies and equipment, managing inventory and submitting supply orders.
* Support park-wide programs and guest interactions, including ticketing, reservations, and program monitoring.
* Assist with Membership Database management (Raisers Edge and Galaxy) and support service recovery efforts.
* Support mailroom operations, including sorting, delivering, and transporting mail and packages.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
* Six months experience in switchboard operation or handling a telephone system.
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Attention to detail, confidentiality, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
* Proficiency in English; cultural competency preferred.
* Valid driver’s license at the time of hire; Illinois residents must obtain an Illinois license within 90 days if applicable.
Preferred Qualifications:
* High school diploma or GED.
* Experience with two-way radios, Microsoft Office, Raiser's Edge, and multilingual skills (Spanish) are a plus.
