Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Commis to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for food preparation and a strong understanding of kitchen operations. The Commis will support senior chefs in daily kitchen activities, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to food safety standards.
Duties
* Assist in food preparation, including chopping, peeling, and basic cooking tasks under supervision
* Support the team in maintaining cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area
* Follow recipes and presentation standards to ensure consistency in dish quality
* Help with food plating and garnishing to meet presentation guidelines
* Ensure all food safety and hygiene procedures are strictly followed
* Participate in stock rotation and inventory checks to manage ingredients efficiently
* Supervise junior team members when required, providing guidance and support
* Assist in training new staff members, sharing knowledge of food production and safety protocols
* Contribute to maintaining a positive team environment through effective communication and collaboration
Skills
* Proven experience in food production, kitchen work or hospitality environments
* Strong understanding of food safety regulations and hygiene standards
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced setting
* Leadership qualities with previous supervising or team management experience preferred
* Competence in food preparation, cooking, and plating techniques
* Good communication skills to work collaboratively within a team
* Ability to handle high-pressure situations calmly and efficiently
* Knowledge of restaurant operations, including serving practices, is advantageous
* Passion for culinary arts with a desire to learn and grow within the hospitality industry
