We have an opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Occupational Therapist to join our expert and friendly team of OTs, Driving Instructors, and Administration staff on a permanent basis. You will be expected to provide professional line management responsibility for the clinical team and work alongside the Centre Manager in supporting the operational management of the service. You will also spend a proportion of your time conducting assessment drives in-car (rear seat) with the driving instructor, making recommendations on fitness to drive and, when appropriate, on adaptations.
The Centre is accredited by Driving Mobility and funded principally by the Department for Transport, operating within the NHS framework.
Our specialist service primarily assesses medical fitness to drive of individuals with various medical conditions. Developing a working knowledge of the DVLA standards of medical fitness to drive is essential. We also assist passengers and their carers in finding suitable solutions to their needs.
You will work in Derby but will be expected to support assessment activities at outreach services in Stoke and Newark, approximately 3-4 times a month, requiring a valid driver’s licence.
Responsibilities include:
1. Work with Driving Mobility to ensure alignment with accreditation standards.
2. Manage the performance of all clinical staff within the team.
3. Handle informal complaint resolution and liaise with PALS alongside the Centre Manager.
4. Ensure a safe environment at Derby DrivAbility for staff and clients.
5. Maintain personal and team competence.
6. Organise clinical training based on UHDB and Driving Mobility standards.
7. Manage a designated caseload of patients.
8. Provide clinical guidance, education, and training to team members.
9. Oversee in-service training programs.
10. Participate in staff appraisals and Personal Development Plans (PDP).
11. Conduct audits and measure outcomes to inform clinical practice.
12. Support team development alongside the Derby DrivAbility Centre manager.
