The Corporate Communications Advisor plays a key role in creating compelling content across the university’s external and internal communication channels. Working with colleagues across the institution, the role holder will identify, develop, and deliver stories that highlight student success and academic excellence, supporting the continued enhancement of the university’s reputation. The post holder will also contribute to the delivery of clear, timely internal communications that engage and inform both staff and students.


Job Overview

The Corporate Communications Advisor plays a key role in creating compelling content across the university’s external and internal communication channels. Working with colleagues across the institution, the role holder will identify, develop, and deliver stories that highlight student success and academic excellence, supporting the continued enhancement of the university’s reputation. The post holder will also contribute to the delivery of clear, timely internal communications that engage and inform both staff and students. Key Responsibilities

As a Corporate Communications Advisor you will:

* Support the delivery of corporate communications initiatives that promote the university’s strategic priorities, reputation, and community engagement
* Draft, edit and proofread communications content, including media releases, internal announcements, web content, newsletters, and staff and student communications
* Contribute to public relations activities by monitoring media coverage, maintaining media lists, and preparing weekly summaries for the university’s senior leadership
* Draft and support responses to enquiries from journalists and relevant publications
* Support the PR team with broadcast interview opportunities and in person media management
* Assist with internal communications that support staff engagement, organisational updates, and change initiatives across academic departments and professional units
* Support the social media team to maintain, create and post content on the university’s social media channels
* Assist in preparing communications materials for senior leaders, including presentations, FAQs, and briefing notes
* Use the university’s media monitoring platform to track and report on communications performance, including media coverage and engagement metrics
* Use the university’s internal platforms to schedule and plan internal communications output
* Work with internal stakeholders such as the research hub and professional services teams to gather information and support communications activities
* Support the wider marketing and communications function as required through the SPRINT process
* Ensure communications comply with university policies, governance requirements, and accessibility standards


Person Criteria


Qualifications

* Degree or equivalent PR, journalism, writing or communications qualification
* Desirable: CIPR qualification


Knowledge

* Understanding of modern and traditional media, how journalists operate and how to interact with them
* Proven knowledge of what makes a good news story
* Understanding of internal communications channels and how employees engage with information


Experience

* Proven written and verbal communication skills, especially for news style articles (internal or external)
* Previous experience of working in a corporate communications team
* Evidence of ability to deliver communications output at pace
* Evidence of handling sensitive information
