Design & Delivery Lead Technician

Working hours: Full time 37 hours per week (flexible working arrangements, including part‑time, will be considered)

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: Up to £57,700 per year (depending on experience)

Location: Washington, Tyne and Wear


About the Role

As part of the Integrated Design and Delivery team, the Lead Technician will liaise with capital project stakeholders, project managers and the engineering department to define the best technical and Totex solution to resolve an issue. Responsibilities include:

* Plan the procurement and delivery of the solution, supervise contractors and subcontractors, commission new assets and ensure all relevant asset records and documents are updated as per the NWL document requirement list.
* Support the technical development and training of Design and Delivery Technicians through on‑the‑job coaching, mentoring and direction; provide mentoring to apprentices or junior team members if required.
* Mobilise contractors ensuring they follow strict health, safety and wellbeing guidelines, review risk assessments, check competencies and ensure site set‑up fully complies with CDM regulations, including producing and sharing the required legal documentation.
* Manage the weekly works programme to give the business and the installation service provider visibility of forward activity levels, and manage resources (internal and external) to ensure adequate materials, equipment and plant are available to deliver projects and schemes.


About You

* Proven track record supervising contractors and construction activities including civil and MEICA activities.
* Comprehensive knowledge of CDM and required documentation, and proven ability to manage health, safety and wellbeing, including reviewing contractor risk assessments and giving instruction to colleagues and contractors.
* Capacity to provide practical input into designs produced by colleagues or supply chain framework partners, assess contractor documentation for risks and implement appropriate control measures.
* Excellent communication skills, able to communicate with multiple stakeholders, engage customers and colleagues, and motivate and support a team.
* Full UK driving licence, CITB SMSTS, Temporary Works Coordinator, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, First‑aid training and National Water Hygiene accreditation.
