Rate of Pay: £14.08 - £17.34 per hour
Summary:
As a Refuse Driver (HGV), you will be responsible for the safe and efficient collection and transportation of waste across Plymouth, contributing to a cleaner and greener environment. You will operate a range of specialist HGV vehicles (up to Class 1 and 2) and be responsible for ensuring legal compliance with driving regulations, vehicle safety checks, and on-the-job supervision of collection crews. This role requires high standards of customer care, health and safety awareness, and attention to detail in documentation and waste handling.
Responsibilities:
* Operate HGV refuse collection vehicles safely and in accordance with legislation, Council policies, and environmental regulations.
* Carry out daily vehicle checks and ensure roadworthiness, cleanliness, and defect reporting.
* Collect various waste streams (household, recycling, garden, commercial) as per the schedule and respond to unplanned events with minimal supervision.
* Supervise and motivate crew members to maintain productivity, safety, and service quality.
* Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the public, yourself, and your team during operations.
Requirements:
* Full HGV Category C driving licence (C+E desirable).
* Valid Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
* Digital tachograph card.
* Functional Skills in English and Maths Level 2 or equivalent.
* Sound understanding of Health & Safety in operational environments.
* Knowledge of waste regulations and safe working procedures.
* IOSH Working Safely or WAMITAB Level 2 (or working towards).
* Proven experience in driving HGVs (including rear steer and refuse vehicles).
