Funeral Operative (Full-time plus out of hours on call)
Jardine Funeral Directors are looking for a reliable and caring person to join our award winning, 6th generation family business in Dumfries.
The successful candidate will have:
A full driving license
Good physical fitness
Flexibility to work weekends and out of hours
Job Description: Funeral Operative
As a Funeral Operative for Jardine Funeral Directors, you’ll perform a really varied role; taking responsibility for the deceased whilst they’re in our care; assisting in the mortuary; preparing coffins; maintaining vehicles; driving mourners to funeral services and demonstrating real commitment and attention to detail as an essential member of our team. Helping people when they’re at their most vulnerable is a real privilege.
What you’ll do
•Drive our vehicles with care and pride and maintain our fleet to the highest possible
standards
•Drive mourners to funeral services, demonstrating professionalism and empathy •Prepare coffins to the highest possible standards
•Assist in the mortuary
•Assist with burials
•Play an active role within the community, building strong relationships with people
and acting as a trusted and well-respected ambassador for Jardine Funeral
Directors
•Take pride in our facilities and surroundings e.g. chapel/viewing rooms/
canteen/workshop/office/car parks and gardens.
What you’ll bring
•A practical can-do attitude combined with a caring nature and emotional maturity
•A willingness to learn, take on other duties and use your own initiative
•Physical fitness – you’ll be lifting coffins and carrying the deceased in a variety of
environments and situations
•The focus and attention to accurately carry out detailed instructions and complete
tasks to agreed timescales
•The ability to work alone and the flexibility to be part of a team
•A full, clean driving licence
•Flexibility to work as required, including on call at weekends/evenings

Working for Jardine Funeral Directors can be quite a balancing act. On the one hand, it’s tough. On the other it’s incredibly rewarding. Providing practical, hands-on care for the deceased of all ages and circumstances calls for high levels of understanding, empathy and compassion. Working alongside the deceased and their grieving relatives at times of high emotion and pressure isn’t for everyone. It takes a cool head and a warm heart.
