Consultant Psychiatrist – Male Acute
Location: Cygnet Nottinghamshire, England, United Kingdom
Service Line: Mental Health Acute Service for Men
Professionally Accountable to: Medical Director
Managerially Responsible to: Hospital Manager
We are seeking an experienced full‑time Consultant Psychiatrist for Cygnet Hospital Sherwood, a 16‑bed acute men's mental health service. The post‑holder will be the responsible clinician, overseeing ward inpatient care, auditing medical services, and ensuring GMC‑standard care.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
* Lead on the provision of high‑quality care to service users admitted to Cygnet Hospital Sherwood
* Act as a positive role model, maintaining a positive attitude towards patients, families, visitors, and staff
* Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans with the multidisciplinary team
* Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations
* Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnose & treat conditions
* Conduct ward rounds, patient reviews & clinical audits
* Lead the implementation of risk assessment/management and embed clinical governance
* Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers’ hearings, attend hearings
* Liaise with the Ministry of Justice for patient transfers and leave approvals
* Maintain accurate patient records
* Communicate regularly with Site Medical Director and Hospital Manager
* Attend and contribute to academic meetings, adhering to CPD, GMC, DH and Royal College of Psychiatrists standards
* Contribute to the telephone on‑call rota as required

We Are Looking For Someone Who Is…
* Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent)
* Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12, and AC status
* Experienced & knowledgeable in acute men's mental health psychiatry
* Knowledgeable of Mental Health Act, Code of Practice, 2005 Mental Capacity Act, and Code of Capacity
* Excellent communication skills, able to interview, assess, treat and write clear clinical notes
* Committed to continuous professional development
* Team‑player within a multidisciplinary team
* Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent
