Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary
Full time – 0.5 hours per week
Main Purpose:
The Technician will participate in the rotational shift and on-call roster, demonstrating adaptability and flexibility to perform multi-skilled, complex, and non-routine activities. Responsible for calibration and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment. Undertakes maintenance, servicing, repairs, minor improvements, and capital work across the hospital as directed by the Estates management team, ensuring compliance with safety standards and procedures. Provides cover for Senior Technicians by leading other Estates personnel and supports during holiday/sickness periods. Liaises with and assists specialist contracting staff during out-of-hours periods.
Main Accountabilities:
* Work in accordance with Scottish Health Technical Memorandums (SHTMs) as required.
* Participate in the operation and control of building fabric and engineering planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schemes.
* Use handheld electronic technology to provide feedback for the Computer Aided Facilities Management system (CAFM).
* Carry communication devices to respond to emergencies as part of the Emergency Response Team.
* Work in high-risk and challenging areas, ensuring safety measures are fully implemented.
* Complete or communicate works, even if it requires working beyond normal hours.
* Overtime work for emergency repairs as required.
* Provide shift cover and on-call support for maintenance technicians.
* Undertake essential repairs, PPM, calibration, and fault diagnostics as requested by Senior Technicians.
* Liaise with Site Engineers and Senior Technicians regarding plant or equipment failures.
* Perform fault-finding, inspections, validation, and calibration tests per legislation and work instructions.
* Complete reports, work orders, and test certificates.
* Use CAFM technology for feedback and reporting.
* Notify Senior Technicians and Site Engineers of deviations from regulations.
* Follow detailed engineering drawings and specifications.
* Operate tools and equipment safely for work completion.
* Conduct inspection and commissioning tests, issuing completion certificates.
* Operate as a Competent Person under SHTM standards for Serco.
* Understand mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems related to lifts, refrigeration, boilers, air handling units, fire alarms, and building fabric.
Requirements:
* City and Guilds/NVQ or equivalent in Engineering or Electrical apprenticeship.
* BTEC/ONC in engineering/building services and/or five years' experience in a related role, preferably in healthcare.
* Competent in piped medical gases, boiler and pressure systems, Low voltage electrical systems per SHTMs.
* Eligible for appointment as a competent person and skilled person.
* Ability to give direction to shift staff.
* Attention to detail and accuracy.
* Provide technical support and advice to trainees, apprentices, and subcontractors.
* Other duties as appropriate.
