This is an opportunity to apply for a 18 month locum breast radiologist post, joining an already established happy and supportive team of six experienced breast consultant radiologists and 1 consultant radiographer. The locum post is to cover a training posts but there will be further substantive posts in the very near future. The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals Trust manages the Hereford and Worcester Breast Screening Programme together with symptomatic breast imaging for Worcestershire.
The Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust Breast Imaging Service (which includes the Hereford and Worcester Breast Screening Service) is led by a Clinical Lead for Breast Imaging with a separate Director of Breast Screening for H and W.
There is a friendly and enthusiastic team of supported by a Superintendent Breast Radiographer and Operational Manager and their staff. The Hereford and Worcester Breast Screening Programme currently has an eligible screening population of approximately 150,000 to be invited over the three year screening round.
The post will involve both screening and symptomatic breast imaging.
The post holder will have breast imaging duties at Worcester Breast Unit and at the Breast Unit at Alexandra Hospital Redditch.
There will be active involvement in regular Multi‑Disciplinary Meetings, provided by cancer services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake a range of symptomatic breast imaging including : mammography and ultrasound breast and axilla for rapid access breast clinics, mammographic reporting, breast and axillary diagnostic ultrasound and image guided (mammographic or ultrasound) markings, localisations, breast and axillary biopsies, and ultrasound guided breast drainage and film reading.

The post holder will be expected to provide consultation and advisory services to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, General Practitioners and to attend multi-disciplinary meetings. The successful candidate will be expected to work within multi-disciplinary teams in providing high quality clinical care. It is anticipated work will be undertaken on 2 sites. The post holder will provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care. The post holder will attend cross county and cross site meetings.
To collaborate with colleagues to deliver high quality, timely service and to work towards meeting the Trusts and departmental objectives. The post holder will develop close collaborative links with Clinicians working in their area of specialist expertise and work to develop services to patients in these areas to the highest standard, according to departmental protocols and guidelines, where appropriate this will involve active participation with primary Care colleagues.
The post holder will participate in the Trusts annual appraisal as described by DOH and leading to revalidation and job planning process. Consultants will provide cross cover for periods of annual and study leave.
To facilitate effective quality assurance and audit and to ensure that services comply with national standards and guidance. The post holder will take part in departmental and multidisciplinary audit programmes in addition to undertaking individual audit.
The post holder will participate in regular clinical meetings, post graduate activities and maintain continuing medical education in accordance with the requirements of the relevant Royal College and General Medicine Council. The post holder will ensure their own practice is up to date and they support the principles of revalidation by the GMC.
