Assistant Management Accountant
York | £30,000 - £35,000 DOE | Full-Time, Permanent
Are you an ambitious finance professional looking to take the next step in your accounting career?
We are recruiting an Assistant Management Accountant on behalf of a growing and well-established business based in York. This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified or part-qualified ACCA/CIMA candidate to join a supportive finance team and gain exposure to management accounting, business partnering, and commercial finance activities.
Reporting directly to the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in the production of management accounts and financial reporting, whilst supporting the wider finance function with analysis and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
* Produce and maintain accruals, prepayments, and journal entries
* Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
* Support budgeting and forecasting processes
* Prepare monthly financial reports and KPI analysis
* Assist with cash flow reporting and monitoring
* Analyse business performance and provide meaningful financial insights
* Support year‑end audit activities and statutory reporting requirements
* Assist with process improvement initiatives across the finance function
* Liaise with departmental managers to provide financial information and support
* Ensure financial records are maintained accurately and in accordance with company procedures
About You
* AAT qualified or actively studying towards ACCA/CIMA
* Previous experience within a Management Accounts, Assistant Accountant, Finance Analyst, or similar finance role
* Strong understanding of accounting principles and month‑end processes
* Excellent Excel skills and confidence working with financial systems
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities
* Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
* Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
* Strong communication skills with the confidence to work across departments
