We are part of the Plymouth Community Diagnostics Centre (PCDC) due to go live in the summer of 2026. We are currently looking to expand our services with a focus on patient pathway improvement and are open to all forward thinking and innovative ideas/solutions.
We are a Centre of Excellence, looking to expand our cardiac physiology team with opportunities for specialists in electrophysiology, cardiac devices and echocardiography.
As the tertiary hospital and cardio-thoracic centre for the Southwest, we provide a full range of non-invasive and invasive procedures (including a large congenital non-invasive service). We work closely with surgical teams performing structural interventions and ablations. As the regional trauma centre and a university teaching hospital we have close links with the local university.
Note: Preference will be given to internal Trust staff, as well as “Priority” and “At Risk” status including NHS At Risk staff throughout Devon who are able to display recent relevant experience as dictated by the Person Specification.
Main duties of the job
* To act as a Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist.
* To develop services with the Cardiologists, Lead Cardiac Physiologists and Service line manager with an emphasis on Physiologist led services.
* To provide a leadership role for the Physiologist team performing staff supervision, training, and appraisals.
* To update existing and create new local policies, procedures and guidelines promoting best clinical practice.
* To undertake routine and complex diagnostic cardiac investigations and interpret results to provide accurate clinical reports that can be clearly understood, adhering to local and national guidelines.
* To take an active part in promoting a culture of continuing professional development amongst scientific and medical staff.
* To act as a source of expert advice and knowledge assisting in the teaching and training of Cardiac Physiology students, junior medical and scientific colleagues, and medical students.
* To participate in providing the out-of-hours emergency Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical service to achieve 365-days cover.

KEY RESULT AREAS, PRIMARY DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
* KRA 1 - To be highly competent in performing a broad range of routine and complex Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical procedures / techniques, and be an advanced practitioner in at least one specialist field.
* KRA 2 - As an advanced practitioner, take a proactive role, with the Lead Physiologists and other Cardiac Physiologists, in developing and providing organised and efficient clinical-technical input to diagnostic investigations and therapeutic services.
* KRA 3 - As a professional Advanced Healthcare Scientist, manage standards and quality in the clinical-technical Cardiac Physiology services, including responsibility for training of trainees, junior staff and peers when rostered to specialist areas.
* KRA 4 - Foster and develop good working relationships through adequate, timely and appropriate communication with all staff and patients.
* KRA 5 - Participate in providing out-of-hours emergency Cardiac Physiology clinical-technical service to achieve 24/7/365 cover.

Person Specifications
Essential
* Qualifications: Relevant BSc (Hons) or equivalent; postgraduate qualification in Electrophysiology, Pacing and ICDs and/or Echocardiography (IBHRE / BHRS / EHRA / BSE or equivalent).
* Current ILS or BLS certification.
Desirable
* Teaching qualification or work-based assessor certification.
Knowledge and Experience
* Extensive post-qualification clinical experience; experience in a similar highly specialized role.
Desirable
* Experience in lead or cardiac managerial roles; experience in centres with complex cardiac techniques/services; professional registration eligibility.
Aptitude and Abilities
* Proven record of teaching and mentorship in cardiac physiology; excellent organisational and administrative skills.
Desirable
* Experience with NHS budgetary and procurement processes; conceptual flexibility to evaluate multiple options.
