About the role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a (0.5 WTE) band 8a Senior Practitioner Psychologist / Specialist Psychological Therapist to join an innovative and growing Psychological Services Department within a large acute hospital Trust. The department comprises clinical psychologists, practitioner psychologists, psychotherapists and counsellors working into a range of specialities including Neuropsychology, Spinal, Pain, Burns, Oncology and Palliative Care Services. We actively encourage and support supervision, CPD and service-related research. As a department we take trainees from several local training courses in Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, and Counselling Psychology, and have good academic links to the local training courses. Clinical supervision and professional support will be provided by experienced Practitioner Psychologists within the MY Psychological Services Department.
The post holder will provide input into the Medicine Speciality within the MY Psychological Services Department. The post-holder will provide support to a range of patients accessing the Mid Yorkshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust across 3 hospital sites.
The applicant should be enthusiastic, highly motivated, and resourceful with strong skills in delivering psychological treatment and working effectively within multi-disciplinary teams. The post-holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to patients with complex medical conditions (e.g. cardiology, dermatology, diabetes and endocrinology, and gastroenterology), as well as advice and consultation to professional colleagues.
Clinical and professional supervision and support will be provided by the Consultant Psychologist in the specialty. The successful applicant will be a member of the MY Psychological Services Department which is a developing service offering excellent opportunities for professional support and career development. Furthermore, we regularly take doctoral trainees from local courses and have good academic links to a broad range of universities.
Main duties
The post holder will provide input into the Medicine Speciality within the MY Psychological Services Department. The post-holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to patients with complex medical conditions (e.g. cardiology, dermatology, diabetes and endocrinology, and gastroenterology), as well as advice and consultation to professional colleagues.
Key requirements
* To provide highly specialist psychology assessment, intervention, teaching and training to adult in- and out-patients within the Medicine Speciality. To also support families, carers and allied health professionals.
* To provide clinical services at a highly specialist level of expertise, supporting and advising colleagues on issues concerned with the psychological needs of patients with complex medical conditions. The post-holder should also provide expert consultation and professional guidance to allied health professionals.
* To contribute to strategic planning and development of the Medicine Speciality, including integrating with other stakeholders where necessary to improve patient care.
* To respond to service need, interpreting professional policies and ensuring that the service operates at the highest level of best practice. The post-holder will work to develop a culture in partnership with others which leads to policies and strategies that improve patient services.
* To conduct relevant research, evaluation and audit. To support colleagues in undertaking relevant research, evaluation and audit.
* To provide placements for Doctoral Trainees from appropriate courses.
* To provide clinical supervision where appropriate.
* To act independently and to be accountable for own actions within professional guidelines and Trust policies.
