Overview
Applications are invited for two Problem Based Learning (PBL) facilitator posts based at University of Nottingham Medical School. The PBL facilitators are responsible for leading and mentoring PBL groups, providing student guidance and pastoral support.
The Graduate Entry Medicine programme is currently delivered at University of Nottingham Medical School Derby (UN MSD), Royal Derby Hospital, but all campus-based activities may move to Nottingham in 2026.
About the role
As a PBL facilitator you will be part of the wider graduate entry teaching team, playing a key role in supporting medical students to achieve their full potential. You will work with our students in small group settings, helping them to work as a team, identify learning needs and supporting their professional development. You will provide pastoral support to our students and provide evaluations and feedback. You will use your experience to develop teaching resources and implement best practice. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established team that supports the School of Medicine teaching and learning strategy, helping to shape our future doctors.
You will facilitate PBL groups every Tuesday and Friday during GEM term time (3 sessions per week for each cohort of students) and contribute to activities that support the course and student experience. PBL facilitation will normally be delivered in-person.
There are 2 positions available for this post. These are fixed term contract posts available from until 28/02/2027.
About you
You will have a degree or equivalent experience in a relevant healthcare profession or in a health, life sciences or related discipline. You must have excellent communication and organisational skills in fostering student learning, a commitment to medical education and developing future doctors and a willingness to adopt the vision and values of the School of Medicine. You may have experience working with small groups in education or training and inter-professional education experience, but these are not essential.
