Overview

Job title: Anatomical Pathology Technologist (APT, Band 5). Location: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital (QEQM), Margate. This is a full-time substantive role with flexibility to support across sites within East Kent Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Cellular pathology and mortuary services are based at William Harvey Hospital (WHH), Ashford, with full mortuary facilities at QEQM Margate and body storage at Kent and Canterbury Hospital (K&CH). The cellular pathology service is UKAS accredited to ISO15189 standards and the mortuary service is HTA accredited. A Trainee APT role is considered; Trainee pay starts at 70% of the Band 5 maximum (pro rata) and increases to the bottom of Band 5 on qualification.


Responsibilities

* Assist the lead anatomical pathology technician in training and development of East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust trainees, ensuring common practices and adherence to department standard operating procedures.
* Assist in the deployment of staff and resources across sites and rotate to other mortuaries as directed by the Lead Mortician.
* Day-to-day mortuary duties: receive, identify and store bodies in secure, safe and hygienic conditions; ensure safekeeping of clothing, property and valuables; maintain accurate records of all deceased persons and required paperwork.
* Perform all duties in accordance with standard operating procedures and statutory requirements such as the Human Tissue Authority Codes of Practice.


Qualifications and experience

* Essential: Degree/diploma/certificate in Anatomical Pathology Technology or equivalent knowledge plus extensive experience.
* Desirable: European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL).


Personal and professional attributes

* Recognise the values of the NHS/Public Sector and uphold the relevant code of conduct.
* Good understanding of the HTA and relevant regulatory bodies.
* Advanced sensory skill with hand-eye coordination; ability to exercise autonomy and judgement within limited parameters.
* Relevant post-qualification experience working in a public/hospital mortuary.
* Be aware of and adhere to the Trust\'s Vision, Mission and Values.


Other requirements

* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order 1975).
* Certificate of Sponsorship: Applications from job seekers who require Skilled Worker sponsorship will be considered. The Trust can sponsor for Biomedical Scientist (BMS) Band 6 and above, and for other roles Band 5 and above. UK Visas and Immigration guidance applies.

Pay and work arrangement

Pay scheme: Agenda for Change; Band 5. Salary: £31,049 to £37,796 per annum. Contract: Permanent. Working pattern: Full-time, Flexible working.
