Role Purpose
The International Data Steward / Data Governance Analyst is responsible for the end-to-end business stewardship of International data, ensuring clarity, trust, and accountability across the data lifecycle.
This role serves as the primary business owner and decision-maker for data meaning, usage, and acceptability within scope. It prioritizes data quality issues based on business impact and validates remediation outcomes from a business and operational perspective.
The initial focus will be on the International Policy and Underwriting domain, aligned with current business priorities. Over time, the stewardship framework established in this role will expand across additional International data domains.
Core Accountabilities
This role is accountable for business-led data stewardship, including:
1. Owning business definitions, Critical Data Elements (CDEs), and approved data usage
2. Acting as the primary business decision-maker for data meaning and acceptability
3. Prioritizing data quality issues based on business impact and operational risk
4. Validating remediation outcomes to ensure alignment with business expectations
5. Ensuring downstream data usage reflects agreed definitions and intent
6. Accountability spans from data creation in source systems through governance, quality oversight, and downstream reporting and analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Data Stewardship & Decision Making
7. Act as the trusted business steward for International data domains (initial focus: Policy / Underwriting)
8. Own business definitions, terminology, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs)
9. Make decisions on data meaning, usage, tolerances, and acceptability across the International business
10. Ensure all stewardship decisions are documented and maintained within governance tools
Data Quality Ownership
11. Own prioritization of data quality issues from a business perspective
12. Partner with Data Quality and delivery teams to set remediation priorities
13. Validate that fixes and controls meet business and operational requirements before closure
Business & Delivery Interface
14. Serve as the primary business contact for data-related decisions within scope
15. Represent International business priorities in data and platform delivery forums
16. Provide clear guidance to downstream users on data meaning and limitations
Operating Model & Maturity
17. Support the evolution of the International Data Governance and Stewardship operating model
18. Help transition from project-based stewardship to ongoing business ownership
19. Contribute to scalable, repeatable stewardship practices across additional domains

20. International Underwriting, Operations, Finance, and Regulatory Reporting teams
21. Data Governance, Data Quality, and Data & Analytics leadership
22. IT and data platform delivery teams
Skills & Experience
Required
23. 3–5 years of experience in data stewardship, data ownership, or business-led data roles (insurance or financial services preferred)
24. Strong understanding of policy and underwriting data and lifecycle
25. Experience acting as a business decision-maker in data-driven initiatives
26. Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
27. Ability to work effectively with technical teams in a business-led capacity
28. Strong communication, stakeholder management, and influencing skills
Preferred
29. Experience within domain-based or data product operating models
30. Familiarity with enterprise data platforms and modern data architecture
31. Experience working across International or multi-jurisdiction insurance environments
32. Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Collibra)
