Job Overview
PLEASE NOTE These positions are offered on a Fixed Term Contract for 2 years.
As an Operational Support Grade, you will manage the day‑to‑day operations of a busy prison, working in a close-knit team to carry out support services such as patrol, gate duties, deliveries, visitor supervision, phone call and CCTV monitoring. Shifts include nights, so continuous service is required.
You may select up to three prison locations; your preference will be recorded online.
Shift Pattern & Hours
You will work an average of 37 hours per week, including nights, evenings, weekends and Bank/Public holidays (added to the holiday allowance). Shift frequency will vary by establishment, to be discussed at interview.
Salary & Benefits
Salary: £29,432 for a 37‑hour week, inclusive of a 20% unsocial hours working allowance to reflect night, evening and weekend shifts.

Responsibilities
* Gate/portal duties: secure entry/exit for staff, visitors, vehicles; conduct searches; issue and collect keys and radios.
* Control room: operate establishment radio system; monitor and report suspicious CCTV activity.
* Visits: book visits; identify and process visitors; escort when needed.
* Censors/correspondence: monitor, log mail, report illicit or contraband items.
* Night duties: ensure cell doors lock/secure and prisoners accounted for.
* Reception: assist appropriate tasks; photograph prisoners; collate documentation; search/x‑ray incoming property; receive parcels; check seals.
* Prisoner supervision: supervise prisoners, conduct clothing/property exchanges, assist free‑flow movement.
* Food delivery: manage food trolley delivery/collection, including use of electric tug vehicle.
* Driving duties: transport prisoners and escort to destinations; collect mail from sorting office.
* Phone calls: monitor PIN system; maintain PIN call log; complete paperwork; verify legal numbers and solicitors.
* Procedures and protocol: understand & comply with national/local policies, invoke emergency procedures, respond to incidents.
Qualifications & Success Criteria
* Proficiency in spoken English; proficiency in Welsh may be required when specified in Wales.
