THE ROLE
We are looking for a reliable and detail-oriented Finance and Payroll Officer to join the finance team. Based in Edinburgh, this temporary role offers an opportunity to support vital financial operations within a dynamic charity environment. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will manage accounts payable and payroll activities, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and seamless processing of financial transactions. This hands‑on role suits someone who thrives in a fast-paced setting and enjoys working with colleagues across departments.
* Managing the end-to-end purchase ledger, including invoice processing, supplier payments, and expense management.
* Processing payroll for up to 100 staff using Sage 50 Payroll, including wages, deductions, and overtime.
* Performing monthly reconciliations, investigating discrepancies, and posting journals.
* Maintaining accurate financial records, including cashbook and Petty Cash handling.
* Supporting month‑end processes, stock counts, and intercompany transactions.
* Liaising with HR on employee updates, pension auto‑enrolment, and statutory payments.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
To succeed in this position, you should be proactive, organised, and able to work independently while supporting the wider team.
* At least 2 years' proven experience in accounts payable and payroll roles.
* Strong knowledge of Sage 50 Payroll.
* Proficiency in finance systems and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP).
* Understanding of UK GAAP and HMRC compliance standards.
* Ability to maintain confidential financial information accurately.
* Excellent organisational and communication skills.
