Key Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities Our Pipeline Biology department has an immediate opening for a Scientist to join the Preclinical Autoimmunity team for a 12 months fixed term contract. The post holder should have proven practical experience in immunological assays, with demonstrable skills in problem-solving, the ability to work collaboratively, and enthusiasm to learn new skills and contribute to drug discovery. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated scientist to become part of a high-performing and dynamic team.
MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB
To lead, conduct and design experimental investigations, with appropriate guidance from colleagues and managers, enabling the advancement of the Company autoimmunity preclinical pipeline, and associated technology capabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Conduct and analyse cell biology assays supporting ImmTAAI (Immune Modulating Monoclonal TCRs Against Autoimmune Disease) screening and selection and/or preparation of preclinical packages, following set protocols and/or supervisor’s guidance in accordance with set timelines.
• Analyse and interpret data, communicating results and next steps to multidisciplinary programme teams, via written reports and oral presentations at meetings
• Maintain and further develop technical knowledge in relevant fields through self-study, observation and training courses.
• Execute lab work for preclinical projects assigned by manager/supervisor and contribute to defining questions and suggesting lines of investigation within these projects.
• Design and analyse experiments to answer specific biological questions and contribute to interpretation of the data.
• Contribute to preclinical study report writing.
• Provide support to other scientists within Pipeline Biology when required, and to the operational running and maintenance of Cell Biology laboratories and equipment, strictly adhering to the Company’s Health and Safety policies.
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential
• Worked in a bench-based laboratory with proficiency in cellular and immunological based techniques including cell culture of immortalised cell lines and primary human cells, T cell function assays (measuring proliferation and cytokines), flow cytometry, ELISA, reporter based assays
• Recorded and analysed results in a concise and timely way, and in compliance with agreed protocols
• Able to meaningfully lead and stimulate scientific team discussions, especially with regards to the broader interpretation of their own data
• Presented results and scientific practices with excellent communication and organisational skills
• Worked and contributed actively within a diverse team environment
• Proven enthusiasm for learning and progressing career development
Desirable
• Pharma or biotech laboratory experience
• Theoretical knowledge and understanding of immunology and autoimmune diseases
• Experience in study report writing
• Experience with any of the following laboratory techniques or platforms: ELISA, MSD, Flow cytometry, InCucyte, xCelligence or high content imagers, liquid dispensing robotics
• Experience in mentoring others
• Publication in peer-reviewed journals
EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential: BSc. or MSc. in cell biology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related discipline plus post graduate work experience in industry or academia.
Desirable: PhD in a related discipline with some industry work experience.
