Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical Bias) Reading | Office-Based Full-time, Permanent From £60,000 per annum, depending on experience Overview An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled Senior Design Engineer to join a growing, privately-owned design and build specialist. This well-established business delivers complex fit-out projects across controlled environments, with a consistent pipeline of work and a strong reputation for quality and collaboration. Due to continued growth, they are now looking to strengthen their internal design team with an experienced engineer from either a mechanical or electrical background. Key Responsibilities Lead the design and specification of mechanical or electrical building services for commercial fit-out projects. Produce high-quality technical drawings and schematics using Revit and other design tools. For mechanical bias: HVAC, plumbing and drainage, chilled water systems, refrigeration, and compressed air. For electrical bias: Power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and small power systems. Collaborate with internal departments and external contractors to ensure designs are fully coordinated and value-engineered. Support tender and construction phases with practical, buildable design solutions. Ensure designs are fully compliant with current Building Regulations and industry standards. Work to key project deadlines and contribute to continuous improvement of design processes. Skills & Experience Required Minimum 2 years’ experience in mechanical or electrical design within the built environment. Strong knowledge of commercial or industrial fit-out projects. Proficiency in Revit (essential) and familiarity with BIM processes. Ability to develop and present technical solutions clearly and accurately. Sound understanding of construction and services integration. Excellent coordination and communication skills across disciplines.
